Didn't know you favored the dark syrupy beers back in the day. I am in the same boat as you regarding a former drinker, for similar reasons as well. After about a decade of not drinking at all, i did a test run of allowing myself to drink only on vacation outside the town where I live . I dont drink in front of my kids though, but have a few at night to relax sometimes when out of town. My boss/buddy drinks Twisted Tea daily like its water...its tempting on hot afternoons. I am glad that stuff didn't exist when we were young in the late 90s early 2000s. I tasted one and they are much easier to drink than beer, less bubbles and more alcohol than light domestics at 5% i think. We would have really abused them and done even more stupid stuff IMO.
On a side note...I told you before about how much I liked the (then) new cordless skillsaws from Dewalt. Its the 1st cordless saw that I ever used that can actually replace a real corded 15amp professional framers skillsaw. Have stuck roofs with it where i had a string of numbers on a block all day long and steadily cut compound mitres etc all day. Only have to switch batteries at lunchtime, never once had one not make it to lunch either. My framers use them now all day too. Cutmen who cut all day long. I finally found a better cordless skilly. My boss got a Milwaukee that is its direct competitor...its WAY lighter ( IYKYK)...you dont have to use your index finger to hold in that stupid "safety" button on the handle like the Dewalt, its just a switch you press and forget...AND it cuts a 57 degree bevel which is more than the Dewalt. Its the best battery powered tool I have ever used hands down, and a fine skilly at any rate. Super impressed. The other cordless tools in the same series are good too. So far I have only had need to use the impact and brushless drill and both are excellent. Cordless tools made a BIG leap in capability once lithium batteries became the norm. The batteries are real expensive honestly, but unlike the old NiCads you don't need 4 or 5 of them either.
