‘Fears of man-made global warming exaggerated’ - The Economic Times

apologies to bart for not posting a link to a wikipedia article or something from MotherJones,
Harhar. The Economic Times is hit-and-miss on climate, as are many business-oriented outlets like WSJ, Forbes, etc. I even cited ET recently so it must be ok :) but your defunct BS-detectors continue to disappoint. That article had a silly number of inaccuracies and red herrings for its brevity. Smh

Here’s another article from that liberal britcom trash the guardian. Sorry, not sorry

Time is running out on climate denial

Out of curiosity, what was predicted to have happened by now since the early 1990's?
Here are the IPCC reports, starting with the first one in 1990.

Surface temperature rise has slowed a bit, but remains within projections. Ocean temperature rise has continued unabated; 2014 will likely go down as the hottest year on record (both land and sea) and with the El Nino brewing 2015 could set another record.

Arctic sea ice decline is faster than expected. Antarctic sea ice has unexpectedly grown a little. Glaciers are almost universally retreating. Sea level rise is also growing faster than expected.
quick question on either system, is the cap/tax based merely on the emissions of their US based operations, or would it also hit any non local operations? just wondering if they are going to be able to move to international areas to get away from some of these measures.
A good national carbon tax or cap-and-trade plan would include border adjustments. It was suggested in the most recent climate bill. It is not explicitly part of Obama's EPA plan and I don't know if states could choose to enact their own.

Which has little to do with going green and more to do with the fact utility companies often do run a monopoly in the area they happen to be in.

A direct quote:

Instead, this group hopes to put on the 2016 ballot an amendment to the Florida constitution that would to allow businesses or property owners who generate solar energy to sell it directly to others. Currently under Florida law, only utility companies are allowed to sell electricity to consumers.

The ballot summary says it “limits or prevents government and electric utility imposed barriers to supplying local solar electricity. Local solar electricity supply is the non-utility supply of solar generated electricity from a facility rated up to 2 megawatts to customers at the same or contiguous property as the facility. Barriers include government regulation of local solar electricity suppliers’ rates, service and territory, and unfavorable electric utility rates, charges or terms of service imposed on local solar electricity customers.”

California’s sales tax on gasoline has long provoked grumbling from consumers and watchdog groups.

Sales tax is calculated from the full retail price of gas, a figure that includes state and federal excise taxes. That makes the sales levy, at least in part, a tax on taxes.

California also taxes global warming fee | UTSanDiego.com

Good lord...There is no helping these idiots.

Don't you know that predicting the weather is hard according to our resident environmentalist?

But predicting global warming and calamity is obviously absolute and easy?

yep its so hard that you wonder -- where could one get a job where they were wrong 98% of time and still get paid with no worry of being fired ?

You're making the same mistake as the simpletons hooting and hollering about cold weather in Buffalo this winter. Weather is not climate. I don't feel like getting into it again, but if you wish... just be warned you're picking a poor fight.

Yes it’s about utility companies’ control over the market, but it also has literally everything to do with “going green”. And the article was entirely relevant to recent discussion in this thread.

Who pooped in your cheerios this morning?

I really don't want this tax to drive more jobs out of the US. We have just about killed ourselves/economy with all the regulations driving businesses out of the US.

What does the warmest on record mean? That is a meaningless term. It was at least as warm during the Medieval Warming Period and the last Inter-Glacial-which were also naturally caused.

Arctic sea ice decline is faster than expected. Antarctic sea ice has unexpectedly grown a little. Glaciers are almost universally retreating. Sea level rise is also growing faster than expected.

Arctic Sea Ice is above 2007 levels. It looks like a trend change is occurring.

And, here we have it folks. This is really what it is all about for the resident liberal.

Instrumental temperature record

Inb4 you argue that Greenland's temperature during the MWP represents global temperature, again...

How does the Medieval Warm Period compare to current global temperatures?

What does "above 2007 levels" mean? That is a meaningless term. I'm sure arctic ice extent today, January 13 2014, is greater than August 6 2007, and several other days that year.

What? He asked how carbon pricing works and I answered. Speaking of, here's a good interview with former south carolina congressman Bob Inglis that talks about border adjustments:

Q&A: The Conservative Case for a Carbon Tax

Ahead of UN climate summit, Republican Bob Inglis says the idea would lower other taxes.

directly tax the politicians and "scientists" who jet all over the world to attend climate summits at posh 5 star resorts, between the carbon emitted by all those airplanes, limos, and their own breath, they could fund the failing economies in the Euro zone.

Yeah, yeah, cause we all know global warming is a hoax perpetrated by the science illuminati in order to rake in tons of science cash so they can stay knee-deep in science blow and science hookers :boobies:

MG, I'm still waiting for you to comment on your quote
I'm all for the elimination of income and corporate taxes in favor of a consumption-based tax system.
in light of the present discussion.

What? What? And, I asked you what bureaucrat is going to be assigned the job of deciding the winners and losers in your carbon tax scheme? A scheme we don't need by the way.
