Yeah, they did. I understand that. One thing everyone needs to start looking at is this...UT isn't a "safety school" anymore. You don't get people who couldn't make it anywhere else going to UT. You get dedicated, intelligent, motivated students who know their responsibilities and sometimes, that means realizing you're going to college for, oh, I don't know, an education. UT is becoming a serious contender in national education rankings, and the students are taking note of this across the state. So now you have students who aren't going to UT for the football games, and are beginning to go to UT for the actual academics of it all. Not saying it's what I want as an alum going to the games, but it's the fact of the matter.

Regardless, the culture is much different than when a lot of you went to school there (who actually went to school there). It's becoming more about ACADEMICS than it ever was before.

I can understand that and my decision to attend UT was more about money than anything else (since I got into my first choices but couldn't have my family foot the bill). The only thing I will say is that if people make college only about the education/grades/etc then they miss out on much bigger things. Anyone choosing Hodges over Neyland for 3-4hrs on a Sat afternoon is missing out IMO. Your gpa means nothing 2-3 years out of school

Oldie but goodie

My favorites from "College Football: North vs South"

STADIUM SIZE

Up north: College football stadiums hold 20,000.
Down south: High school football stadiums hold 20,000

FATHERS
Up North: Expect their daughter to understand Sylvia Plath.
Down South: Expect their daughters to understand pass interference.

HOMECOMING QUEEN

Up North: Also a physics major.
Down South: Also Miss USA.

PARKING
Up North: An hour or two before game time the university opens the campus for game parking.
Down South: RV's sporting their school flags begin arriving on Wednesday for the weekend's festivities. The real faithful begin arriving on Tuesday.

GAME DAY

Up North: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.
Down South: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast, and rushes over to where ESPN is broadcasting Game Day "Live" to get on camera and wave to the idiots from up North who wonder why Game Day is never broadcast from their campus.

GETTING TO THE STADIUM

Up North: You have to ask, "Where's the stadium?" When you find it you walk right in with no line.
Down South: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day, it becomes the state's third largest city.

CONCESSIONS

Up North: Drinks served in a paper cup filled to the top with soda.
Down South: Drinks served in a plastic cup with the home team's mascot-filled less than halfway to ensure enough room for bourbon.

COMMENTARY (MALE)

Up North: "Nice play."
Down South: "Dammit you slow sum*****! Tackle him and break his legs!!!"

COMMENTARY (FEMALE)

Up North: "My, this is a violent sport."
Down South: "Dammit you slow sum*****! Tackle him and break his legs!!!"

AFTER THE GAME

Up North: The stadium is empty before the game ends.
Down South: Another rack of ribs on the smoker. While somebody goes to the nearest package store for more beer, planning begins for next week's party.

If this dosen't get you fired up then something's wrong with you.

And about the students. Even a Phi Beta Kappa can take a few hours off on Sat nite for a game. All Work and no play makes Jack a DULL boy.:yahoo::yahoo:

I really don't get your response. Maybe it's because I don't have any stars under my "join date", but hey that's cool.

I guess it's a "Florida" thing for some of us. In my part of town, there are no TN fans, it's gators, buckeyes wolverines and some hurricanes. When I wear anything that even resembles the "Volunteers", I hear either "Go Big Orange or Rocky Top Hell Yeah", both being sarcastic and making fun. Vol Nation is my only connection to the VOLS. I know, Boo hoo. Anyway, I didn't see anything wrong with his post, in fact, I watched the You Tube video (even though I've seen that one and others a thousand times) and got kinda homesick. I take the Beach and the Gulf for granted, maybe some of you take some things for granted as well.

I was referring to the arrangement of Rocky Top by the Osborne Bros. I'm not a big bluegrass fan. Nothing wrong with his post. Sorry I offended you bro!! :hi:

Dont watch the game then chump

lol, aaaaand the name calling begins.....

I've found, the more ignorant the fan, the more likely they're to have unrealistic expectations.

let me guess, you think we’re going to blow Auburn out right? Well not exactly blow them out, you’re thinking….. 51-3? Typical koolaid man.

Didn't offend me Sir. I don't care too much for bluegrass either, but I did enjoy hearing it in it's original form. I just miss being in the heart of TN & SEC footbal, especially this time of year. I never mean to disrespect members that have been here longer than I have, and I didn't mean to here.

By the way, I hope we beat the tig, er the war eag, ah auburn like a Sunday mornin woody.

Really? There will be over 10,000 people in the student section screaming and yelling. How many people in sections Q through V will be standing? I'm guessing not that many, not even close. Stop ripping on the students, and start getting the people around you to stand and BE LOUD for their team.

EVERYONE SHOULD LOSE THEIR VOICE AFTER THIS GAME! NO EXCUSES, PLAY LIKE A CHAMPION, AND GIVE YOUR ALL FOR TENNESSEE ON SATURDAY!

VB...:rock::realmad::rock::realmad:

Hey, don't talk about section Q...that's my section!! (just kidding) Most of the people in Q do stand up, but not the whole game. We WILL be standing a lot tomorrow though whether those around us like it or not. :good!::clapping::rock::dance2::pardon:
