True. There was certainly some back and forth and public squaring-off between UF AD Scott Stricklin and White, which spilled over into the fan bases.
But this slices both ways, UF may have an added incentive to want to beat the breaks off of UT too.
I actually love that I can now needle the heck out of UCF fans who spent White’s entire tenure as UCF AD trying to downplay the SEC and P5 conferences. Now their beloved AD leaves for one.![]()
I am not disagreeing but I rather lean toward freeze. His offensive mind has been proven in the SEC. Heupel, not to knock him but hasn't coached against SEC level competition week in and week out. Freeze, coaching ole miss of all schools, has proven to slay Saban more than once. Regardless of who it is, an offensive-minded HC is the direction we need to go.
Yeah, I don't really fault Hart too much for the Butch hire. Like you said, it at least looked reasonable on paper, unlike Kiffin, Dooley, and the trainwreck 2017 search.
Also, almost all the "top coaching candidates" from that year ended up being busts. Strong flopped in Texas. Taggart eventually struck out at Florida State. Gary Andersen likely got pushed out at Wisconsin, before flopping during his 2nd stint at Oregon State. Kingsbury was mediocre at Texas Tech. Bielema failed at Arkansas. Doeren was mediocre at NC State. McIntyre had a tumultuous time at Colorado (in spite of some success). Sonny Dykes flopped at California.
Just a very bad year to hire a coach. The two biggest success stories are Malzahn (who was never great at Auburn) and Mark Stoops at Kentucky.
