Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs is known for community service. That doesn’t stop during the holidays.

The junior visited A.J. Cucksey on Christmas Day to provide encouragement for the young boy, who is battling brain tumors. Dobbs visited Cucksey a day before the Vols were scheduled to travel to Tampa, Fla., for the Outback Bowl.

Josh Dobbs tracked down a crying kid who didn't get to meet him

Josh Dobbs was on hand for a meet-and-greet after Tennessee’s spring game Saturday, but it seems not everyone had the opportunity to spend time with the Volunteers’ popular quarterback.

When the mother of an inconsolable young fan tweeted at Dobbs hoping for a shout-out, she got more than she bargained for.

A lot more.

Dobbs saw the tweet and immediately responded with a promise he’d make it up to the crying boy. Hours later, he tweeted a photo with the little boy showing he made good on that promise.

Tennessee QB Josh Dobbs now has a fan for life - Gridiron Now

Like Dobbs, Ripley suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune disease that results in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. Ripley also is a big Vols fans, and recently wrote Dobbs saying it was her dream to meet him.

Dobbs wrote back with words of encouragement. “I do not worry if other people make fun of me because having alopecia is something I can’t control,” he told her. Then, Dobbs went a step further, inviting Ripley — who is from Morristown, Tenn., a town of about 30,000 that is 50 miles northeast of Knoxville — to campus to meet him and tour the facilities.

Knoxville’s WATE-TV reports that the two talked, and that Dobbs posed for pictures, signed autographs and gave her a wristband. The wristband said “Be Relentless” and Dobbs told Ripley that would be their motto.
