Official Coaching Search Thread

I really appreciate how this coaching search has been conducted thus far. The last go around, there were leaks about offers coming out like a sieve. Made it seem like Currie was desperate for a hire and reflected poorly on the university how so many coaches turned us down.

Besides some very general coaching candidate possibilities (reported by Hyams), AD White seems to have a much tighter lid on the situation with little to no leaks about any potential offers.

We're still early on though, so we shall see.

That’s because you had folks who were undermining Currie.

Don't be surprised if it's somebody we didn't see coming.
I believe it will be a big name coach. Not a up and comers.
This is the kind of mess that will take a solid hire to get through.
We have already had 3 bad coaches, 1 good coach but only stayed for one year.

I read a lot and don’t post much. That being said everyone is on their soap box wanting a big name P5 HC. My belief is if a P5 coach was willing to come here we likely would not want him anyway. Why would a standing HC with a winning record and a team that is trending up leave for a school that is facing NCAA sanctions. This is why we have to trust AD White. He has to do again what he has done in the past. He’s got to find that guy who’s up and coming that can meet the challenge and can succeed. Not an easy task but hey he wanted a challenge. Best I can say in trust in White.

...or Danny White’s first (and only) hire is an utter failure!

A competent AD isn’t going to hire a coach based on the referendum of a fanbase. All the saber-rattling is for our own entertainment.
This is all basic human behavior:
Danny White = “THE MAN”
THE PEOPLE hate THE MAN
THE PEOPLE hate Danny White
It’s why rock ‘n roll and forums exist.

This is the problem with Volnation. Low expectations. Why not Saban and Belichick!!!

Up and comers will fail here , especially when we're going to get sanctions against us.
Up and comers is the last thing you want.

You drink this early everyday or just during coaching searches?

Are you honestly going to tell me you’ll be excited if UT hires another assistant coach with no head coaching experience to run the program esp with where everything is right now?

Let's look at the past eight head coaches at Tennessee. Four of these coaches were former head coaches if you count Kiffin's short stint in the NFL. Of those, only Johnny Majors ended with a winning SEC record at Tennessee (Kiffin was .500).

Of the four coaches that had no prior head coaching experience, only Pruitt ended with a losing SEC record. Dickey, Battle, and Fulmer each had winning records.

So, remind me again, why are we insisting on head coaching experience?

I admit that I am also one that REALLY wants someone with prior head coaching experience.

The problem with Herman at Texas was the players did not like him.
I heard the players loved him. He rubbed the wrong ppl the wrong way by supporting his players about not singing the school fight song, due to the “Eyes of Texas” having some racial reference in it.

I'd love to have him, but the reality is that he'll likely see us the same way as South Carolina when they tried to hire him. This was something I came across when researching coaches. It's more than just money to some guys.

I agree he will not just take any job he is looking for the right one which i hate to say he will not be the next coach at Tennessee but it would be a homerun hire. Just wishful thinking

What would be worse:
Hiring a search firm only to keep the guy that is already employed BY YOU or...

Having said search firm point at Josh Heupel and say 'he's over there, Danny. We'll take our hard-earned cash now, please.'
