Tennessee added what looks to be the final piece of the Vols’ 2017 Class toady with junior college All-American guard Chris Darrington going public with his pledge to Tennessee.

The high scoring floor general took official visits to Memphis and Tennessee prior to his decision. He also mulled over opportunities from South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Colorado, Seton Hall and Nebraska among others before pulling the trigger.

Darrington (6-foot-1, 175 pounds), played the past two seasons at Vincennes Junior College in Indiana. This past year he led his squad to a berth in the Junior College National Tournament, and saying he ‘led’ them there is no exaggeration.

Playing point guard, Darrington led his team in scoring at 20.6 ppg, assists at 5.1 per contest and shot an impressive 40% from three point range.

It’s that last number that could most benefit his new team. Heading into this offseason Tennessee needs to either develop, or bring in, some reliable backcourt scoring. Darrington’s addition gives the Vols at improving at what was a troublesome spot in 2016-17.

The Vols have some promising young guards, but the team doesn’t return a backcourt player that averaged more than 8.4 ppg or shot better than 34% from three-point range (with a minimum of 49 attempts).

As his numbers suggest, Darrington knows how to put the ball in the basket. However, he considers himself first and foremost a point guard and has worked hard to enhance his skills at the position during his two years of junior college.

His team-high 5.1 assist this past season hint that he knows how to run a team while still finding his own offense, a skill the Vols can certainly use.

Darrington now gives the Vols four newcomers for next season, joining big men Derrick Walker and Zach Kent along with ultra-athletic forward Yves Pons from France.

The addition of Darrington, at least for the time being, also means that the Vols have no scholarships available in the 2018 recruiting class.

I don't know what will hurt the remaining 50 Memphis Tiger fans: losing a recruit to UT or losing one to Ouachita Baptist

This is my favorite part. "He can score from the outside, shooting 43.3 percent from beyond the arc (90 for 208)."
Not for nothing, but Chris Lofton averaged 43.7% on 3-pointers in his Junior year at UT.

If so he was lied to. He plainly stated in a few articles I read He was a Pg

All recruiting services I have seen list him as a combo guard, and with him shooting over 40% from three, and with having Turner and Bone on the roster, I would think he has a better chance at playing time at the two. Who are our two's right now, besides Bowden? Shembari Phillips? Jalen Johnson? I guess Turner or Bone could play the two but they seem to be more suited for PG. And with Parker and Mostella gone, I also see more of a need at the two, than at PG.

Also, I don't know if your statement is referring to what position Darringtion views himself playing, or where Barnes sees Darrington playing, but it only matters what Barnes thinks. Need will determine where he plays.
