Official Brexit Referendum Discussion

Rough day for Obama yesterday. Supreme Court slapped him down on immigration reform and Britain gave him the middle finger on his threats to move Britain to the "back of the queue" on trade deals if they voted for Brexit.

Nice guess..

:hi:

Nuland had other responsibilities yesterday, so I knew there was a good chance. :devilsmoke:

What does this do to your men behind the curtains thoughts? Did they want the UK to leave? Were they asleep yesterday? Or are they not as powerful/evil as you have made them out to be?

Temporary market calamities. I'm not too worried about. This is a long term win for democracy

I agree with you, but the fall of the EU (which apparently is slowly gonna happen now) concerns me because when the EU didn't exist those countries often led the world to the largest wars in history. That is my only worry here; that Europe will revert back to its extreme nationalism and extreme competitive nature that always leads to some major war.

The EU sprang up right after WWII? pretty sure it was some other factors, besides a unified Europe, that kept them from fighting.

So I am hearing that France, Sweden and the Netherlands are all calling for referendums? Interesting domino situation going on. No way Germany tries to keep the thing rolling long term with some of these big guys leaving. I wonder if we see them start to cut some of the smaller nations (takers) off to balance it?

It hit hiLIARy in the vage too.

I kind of doubt that's going to be a fast process though, right?

its going to accelerate as more and more nations leave. each new one to leave, or even vote, will have a profound result on the rest of them. My only thing is how long will Germany try and maintain it? I could see them collapsing/giving in sooner than later with the big guys leaving.

The framework of the modern EU was hammered out soon after WWII. I understand what you mean but I think you downplay the importance of the EU in keeping the continent working together. These countries were only friendly because of the dramatic effects of WWII and they will avert back to their traditional nationalism and selfishness (yes I know these existed in the EU but not at the level of pre-EU) that could lead the world down a dangerous path of war. It worries me. I don;t blame Britain for the vote, but I also know the history.

I saw that Trump was in Scotland with his press contingent this morning pimping his new golf course a day after a whining about Hillary using her position for personal gain.

I wonder if Trump got the memo that the Scots voted to remain before or after he told them how great of a decision it was for the UK to exit the EU?

Britain also doesn't believe it is "Europe" per se.

Yeah... Dear leader will open up trade with Cuba but shut down trade with Great Britain. Go figure
