Official Bray Train thread (merged)

How do you know we wouldn't have drove down the field with Simms in the game down by 7? With Bray in the game on the first drive he made us down 14. How do you know that?

I have the What If Sports Channel (available on Direct TV), and watched Simms get to play the 4th qtr, final score....SC 56-Vols 14.

Given that Bray threw the pick six which essentially negates one of his own touchdowns, they played a somewhat even game today. Bray showed off his talents.

All I ask is that Dooley stay with one quarterback from here on, unless Bray throws four picks in a half or something.

Why is this thread labeled the way it is? The OP post was in support of Simms, not Bray.

Simms was having a very good day, the first fumble wasn't his fault at all...the second he was partially responsible for but was still a busted block on his blind side.

Bray's pick six basically cost us any chance at winning... although he did recover nicely and made some good throws.

Bray gets sacked just as much as Simms and overthrows receivers more than Simms.

I'm not saying I think we win the game if Simms stays in... but Bray was not better than
Simms on this day, I'd call it a wash. Both played pretty good, but had key mistakes, the pick six being the biggest mistake of the day. I did disagree with the decision to pull Simms, at the time, because he wasn't the problem and was actually play well, the OL had a terrible game.

Someone actually watched the game. Awesome!

Exactly what I've been trying to say.

Watch the game. He steps into the pocket quite a bit when given the time.

Ive watched all the games. Simms loses it when he's getting rushed. In his defense he does get a lot of pressure but he folds under it 99 percent of the time. When the rush is coming he runs around in the pocket and has no idea what is going on down field and he dumps it off to someone who gets nailed. Bray steps up while continuing to look down field. It doesn't look like it phases him like Simms. That's all I'm saying man.

Go watch the 7 prior games again and get back to me.

Bray ABSOLUTELY, without a doubt showed that he deserves the starting position today. He showed the ability to handle adversity, physical toughness, that mental toughness that Dooley is always talking about, escapability in the pocket, the ability to make decisions and get rid of the football quickly, and he flat out made throws that Simms can't make. We would not have had a shot at that game had Simms stayed in. Not only that, I think Bray starting gives us a better shot with recruits that are still on the fence. I'll be blown away if Dooley doesn't have Bray under center next week. Go Vols!

It all comes down to one stat. Who puts points on the board? Today, Bray got us in the end zone twice. Let him play, he will only get better. Simms won't.

Tim Priest: This has to help your confidence.

Bray: "Yeah, I'll be fine."

No not really! Simms had 2 fumbles that turned into two touchdowns, he also had one td, thereefore his score is 7-14 in favor of the gamcocks. Bray threw 1 int for a touchdown, with two touchdown scores, therfore his score is 14-7 in favor of vols with bray at qb position.

I have but it's not even worth arguing about. At least we scored more than 10 or 14 points and had a quarterback to have two TD passes.

Bingo...anyone supporting Simms at this stage of the season is just enjoying an argument. There are just a few left in that camp.

If we fumble the ball away, it's still on our defense to stop them from converting it into 7.

Once you throw a shallow pick on a slant or screen, its all over.

The d gave up the points

Bottom line is , the team rallied with Bray under center. And even though he threw the pick 6 he came back and played solid. I dont care what anyone says Simms holds the ball to long and both those fumbles were on him not the line.

wrong, only one of them.

I dont think Simms played poorly overall. But two things you dont seem to come to grips with is a.) Simms was ABSOLUTELY holding the ball too long and not stepping up to avoid rush, the 2nd fumble was not an OL issue.... b.) Bray made multiple throws that Simms is not capable of making, bottom line.

I don't disagree with any of that. After watching the replay of the 2nd fumble I agreed with everyone else. The first fumble however was no doubt on Dallas Thomas.

i think the real question is each fan's perspective. if you want to win today, leave simms in. he seems to have grown from earlier in the season throwing turnovers. he does need to instinctively step up in the pocket, which he doesnt do often. his vision is limited and he doesnt make his reads quickly.

bray is more natural and has better tools overall. he makes wow throws at least once a game. personally, id let bray get his baptism by fire this season and let him grow for next year. i dont see simms beating him out next year so i say give bray the keys.

Per Rucker: A few quotes from Simms:

""There's nothing much I can do about getting hit in the back."
"It wasn't like I dropped back and threw it to the other team." (Swipe at Bray)
"I didn't say anything to (Bray.) They were going to give him plenty of chances."

He's really showing his a$$. Looking like a potential locker room cancer. Dooley needs to engage in a little attitude adjustment.
