Official Bracketology Thread

They haven’t been worse than a 4 seed since 2001.

Anything less than sweet 16 is going home early. And really if you’re a 1 seed you should be making the elite 8.

So “always” is an exaggeration but they have a history of getting knocked off very early for a top 4 seed.

So only 5 of the last 17 years they’ve gone home early going by your definition?

12 sweet 16s in 17 years and 9 elite 8s! Not a team that always goes home early imo

This is the first time I’ve seen someone give themself an L.

Actually 6 times.

And honestly elite 8 is kinda early for a 1 seed which has happened 4 times to them. Also going home in the first round doesn’t happen often to seeds 1-4. It’s happened to them twice. Going home in round 2 for a top 2 seed doesn’t happen every year. It’s happened to them 3 times.

Just seems to me like they are the team that kills everyone’s bracket cause they go home a couple rounds early.

In effort to combat the leaking of the bracket online before they have a chance to announce it, CBS and Turner Sports will be announcing all 68 teams in the field in alphabetical order -beginning with the automatic bids and then the at-large bids. This will effectively kill the drama for the fans of teams on the bubble while also make the rest of us wait to see the actual match ups. Lame idea.

Love Grant and Admiral. They ain’t Bagley and Carter. Allen is also better than any of our guards.

It wouldn’t be a good matchup for us

Probably. No actually true. But the point is Allen needs his clock cleaned a couple times. And i would love to see Admiral or Williams poster him.

What a lineup for the south regional if top 4 seeds advance, per most recent prediction by Lunardi. The top 4 defensive efficiency teams in the country all playing in the same building.

#1 Virginia, #2 Cincinnati, #3 Texas Tech, and # 4 Tennessee. Might set a record for the lowest total points in a 3 game regional ever played. I'm in the minority but I would love to see 3 games with nobody scoring 60 points in a game. I love watching great defense and I would love our chances for advancing.

The numbers I've shown are the defensive efficiency ratings per Ken Pomeroy, not their seedings.

Bump

I bumped this because his brackets are changing constantly now and this particular bracket seemed really unique. Doubt it will ever happen though.

They're extremely favorable on B1G teams. I just can't imagine Michigan St getting a 1 seed. And Michigan as a 2 seed seems like a stretch.

Also, this bracket violates some of the committees rules, so I don't think you can seriously consider it except maybe for the seeding. They have teams from the same conference on the first 4 lines in the same region which the committee won't do. And Florida vs Missouri in the first round??

Matrix update...

The Bracket Project's Bracket Matrix - 2018

North Carolina with their win cements their spot ahead of us imo, so top 7 are set in some order imo...

8-12:
Cincinnati
Auburn
Michigan State
Tennessee
Michigan

The gap between these teams is really small, obviously Michigan & Michigan State are done playing so they can’t improve their resumes. 1 win for Tennessee and I think we cement our spot ahead of Michigan and likely move ahead of Michigan State as well.

Win more games than Auburn and I think we also pass them, Cincinnati probably would be the toughest for us to pass, probably need them to lose early or we need to make a big run to jump them imo.

Bare minimum huh? For the 5th youngest team in thie country and that was picked to finish 13th in their conference with no postseason appearance of any kind?

Don’t forget that as a 3 seed we see a team such as...Kentucky, Florida, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Arkansas, Gonzaga etc. we’ve already lost this year to a team like Arkansas and Missouri, so saying I full on expect to win a game against a tough 6 seed is a little much for me as of today.

I won’t be disappointed if we’re ousted in the 2nd round. It’s been a fun season, and we’re ahead of schedule of where I thought we would be.

Make it into postseason play. The team has exceeded expectations. But I think it’s reasonable to make the sweet 16 as a 3 seed.

Okay, but it just seems like quite the jump to go from that expectation to saying that the Sweet 16 is your bare minimum now. There's a lot of success to be found in between just making postseason play and the Sweet 16.

I thought being picked 13th was borderline asinine, especially with a team returning every rotational player from last season, minus Hubbs. I thought they’d be a fringe NCAA tournament team this season. They pleasantly surprised me and others being a year ahead of schedule, and it’s a testament to this group and Coach Barnes.

Perhaps I worded it poorly, but I would like to see a sweet 16 appearance with this group.

Vols gonna need a win to stay on the 3 seed line imo...

4 seeds:
Texas Tech- won today
West Virginia- won today
Arizona- won today

5 seeds:
Clemson- won today

I don't care as much about splitting hair between being a 2nd or 3rd seed, but care more about where we play?

What will need to happen for us to play in either Nashville or Charlotte?? I'm trying to go to a game!

Have to get to Sunday to be safe imo. Looks like Nashville is possible and Charlotte isn't

No chance in Charlotte

To get Nashville or Pittsburgh we need to pass 2 of...Auburn, Michigan State and Cincinnati.

Imo we are at the point where we are putting too much emphasis on these games.

Case in point lunardi moved Arizona down to a 5 seed after winning yesterday

I'm not convinced conference tourney games mean much at all outside of a few teams.

At the end of the day the committee is gonna go in that room and come out with their teams and we won't get to see how the sausage is made.

Every single year I recall thinking that the conference tourney games meant almost nothing to the higher seeds. The "committee already had their seeds decided on" talk is prevalent most years
