Official 3/3 GOP debate thread

GV's traditional ranking...

1. Kasich - Clear winner. Great points made. Stayed above the mud slinging between Trump, Cruz and Rubio. But it does make me wonder if he can break free this late in the game.

2. Three way tie in a race to the bottom. Trump, Rubio and Cruz all had great moments and brought some great points to the table. Then lost the ground gained by going after each other.

Trump did great on some questions and sounded like a President. Then completely fell through the floor with others. Like ordering the military to commit war crimes. No matter who you are or if you support him or not, he's way wrong on that position. But other times like his immigration stances that changed tonight he showed he can be reasonable. Very hot and cold debate from the front runner.

Rubio and Cruz did good when bringing direct questioning and policy points at Trump which he couldn't or didn't answer. Then threw it all away when they went personal with the attacks. A couple of high points from both, but enough low points that they won't gain ground.

I don't see the field changing that much numbers wise. If anything, Trump might take a bit of a hit on his immigration stance, but nothing to take him out of the lead.

Agree GV - Rubio and Cruz forgot to talk policy positions in a rush to attack Trump.

Wondering why Establishment isn't rallying around Kasich. Rubio look weak and they hate Cruz almost as much as Trump.

I think Trump U was the most damning punch/counterpunch tonight for Big Don.

Rubio was off tonight. I'd bet pennies to dollars he's sick right now because he's tended to be on point in most debates.

Had Kasich come out like this in the beginning he might be near the top.

The Trump phenomenon reminds me of the Seinfeld episode "the opposite". "if every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right".

Nice take, Grand. Especially agree on Kasich. Tragic he isn't challenging in this thing.

In all seriousness, that is close to where the electorate is. GOP voters hate the establishment losers as much as the democrats. "The opposite" of Romney and McCain must be considered as a possibility. It's the perfect explanation for Trump. Trump would not be possible without the combination of Obama and vapid republicans like McConnell and Boehner. The right is sick and tired of losing. So, Trump doesn't fit the perfect conservative model...but he's a winner and winning is something they are very hungry for.

Wonder how much longer Lou Dobbs will be on after claiming FOX producers are in cahoots with the GOP establishment

I tend to try to be objective, though Gramps thinks I'm crazy. Trump had a few great moments even though I'm not a huge fan. But he also showed how easily he can be provoked and fall back into the name calling and childish banter. It's expected of Cruz to be a dick, though he had a few moments that made me chuckle. Rubio snuck in a couple of hits (the yoga comment was good) but failed miserably in the back and forth with Trump. It's just not his style.

Kasich snuck in a hit on Trump at the end, but stays above the banter and makes his case of being the most "Presidential" on the stage.

The Trump keyboard warriors are slacking. I've seen Berniebots get those numbers up to 95% for the Dem debates.
