as much as kicking a FG is all about timing, I wouldn't touch the snap count. and besides, it looked like he was going more off the holder's signal than an actual count.

I'm not sure field goal teams work off the same type of "traditional" snap count as the rest of the offense does.

Plus you also have the actions/timing of at least 3 players involved with the start of the play here (rather than just the two with a hard count when it's a QB and center)...

That's even if they go off of a traditional snap count rather than signals.

I get all that, but you can't just have seen him come within a hair of blocking one, see him lining up to do the same thing and just assume, "Well surely he won't do it again." Especially when your kicking for crucial points right before halftime.

Tom Brady will be the starting Qb for his 9th AFC championship game.

If the Patriots win, he will be the starting QB for his 6th Super Bowl.

If you want to talk about how great Peyton is fine, but trying to knock down Brady to do it is not the best way. Brady can't be knocked down.

I think it's more "what else can/do you do" in a situation like that though. It was clearly something that anyone would practice for.

I guess maybe - at best - you could try changing up your hand signals...but it'd also be their first time doing so, then you also risk either throwing off the timing or someone going at the wrong time/not getting off to block at the right time.

Everyone knew Manning was going to be great. Brady is arguably the greatest draft steal ever. It's still mind-blowing to think of the QBs that went before him. Tee Martin was one of them, BTW.

Or heck, even baseball. At least the NCAA vacates wins and MLB bans you from the Hall. The NFL just strips you of a draft pick and gives you a piddly ass fine while letting the results stand. As if knowing the other teams plays weren't the difference between winning by 3 points or going 0-3 in their Super Bowl wins.

I'd argue that taking future draft picks shows a lot more balls than retroactively vacating wins. At least one is a legit attempt to handicap a team for breaking the rules. The other is just a hollow gesture that changes nothing.

Everything they did on that play was legal. If the refs don't do their job correctly, that's on them.
