Official 2010 U.S. Open thread

Good stuff. Anyone but a Frenchman. Surprised he didn't just lay his wedge down and walk out of the bunker on 18.

Haney was awful for Tiger IMO. Left is killing him and Dr Hook preaches and preaches it.

To me, it looks like Tiger's talent and sheer force of will fight through all the bad habits Hank taught him and allows him to hit a spectacular shot here and there, like into 18 on Saturday. I was also utterly shocked to see him putting so tentatively while in contention. Still, though, that's two top 5's in the two majors for the year. I think most guys would take that. But if you told me at the beginning of the that Tiger could win the tournament by shooting even par or better, I would have bet the farm on him.

You know, I can deal with him winning.

So can I. I'm anticipating some lame whining about the setup, but in the end, even par won the tournament, which, to my understanding, is the USGA's stated goal with the Open. It wasn't like McDowell won it +8 or something. There were birdies to be had out there. Too bad no one seemed to be interested in making a putt on Sunday.

If someone had told me Sat. night that Matt Kuchar would fire the lowest score in the final round, I'd never have bought it, kudos to him, nice Sunday 68.

he said multiple times post round he made mental mistakes.

he used the word "we" a few times, but when you are at that level, your caddie definitely deserves some credit when you win or some blame when you lose. Not all, mind you, but some.

what did he say?

I saw him blaming his problem on mental mistakes, which was clearly a problem, but nothing compared to the wayward shots.

Called Stevie out by name for his shot on #10, said "Stevie told me to fire right it, but I knew that wasn't the play, it was an impossible pin but I did it anyway" He also said "I knew the shot on #6 was a 5 iron but again we decided it was a 4 , I knew better but hit it anyway"

His shot on #10 was horrible and twenty yards right of the pin anyway, didn't have a damn thing to do with Steve Williams.

I think as a golfer you expect the wayward shots and you try to recover from them. The one thing those guys can control is their mind. I think he was just referencing those as being costly because he could control that easier than a bad swing.

He said his mental mistakes were hitting right at pin on 10. Wrong club on 6 and 12. He also 3 putted 1 and played 4 like a pansy. Played 16 and 18 like a chump on Thursday, as well.
Swing looked better, though. Hand and clubface positioning had improved. The dip is very much still a problem

Weak sauce. But he put himself in the position to be criticized.

Phil blamed the greens for his misfortunes, but I suppose he gets a pass because he did it indirectly?

Nonsense, nobody ever criticizes their caddy in the press tent, except Ian Woosnam. Tiger shot 74 on Thur. when the tourny wasn't on the line, did he mention Stevie in the press tent then? no, he shot a great 66 on Sat, did he mention Stevie in the press tent then? no.

I didn't hear Phil blame anybody but himself, on Thur. he said he putted awful, Tiger said the greens were awful, all I heard Phil say yesterday was I had my chances and I didn't get it done, if he tried to blame the greens I didn't hear it but if he did he gets no pass from me, nobody that chooses to play the blame game gets a pass here, if and when Phil starts throwing Bones under the bus in the press tent, I'll call him out too.

Go check what phil said about his putt on 14 and get back to me.

Tiger always says "we" in good times and bad.
