Offer Chris Petersen 8.4 mil

There are articles about how Petersen is unhappy with the scheduling and exposure out west. We sure would give him plenty of exposure!

They already gauged his interest and is not leaving the NW area

do we even know if they gauged his interest with an 8+ million salary offer?

or did we gauge his interest with a 4 million salary offer?

if he said no before, the problem is that we don't know what he said no to.

Nah. To be one of the highest paid coaches in football is a big deal. I'm fairly certain that if UT had offered ANYONE 8 mil a year before Sunday we could have had any coach we wanted besides Gruden.

Comfort matters but ego and money and competition matter more to these guys.

That's categorically wrong.

If that was the case, the SEC would have 6+ coaches over $10m

It could be Petersen wants nothing to do with Haslam errr uhhh I mean UT...

Yeah, I think having to deal with Haslam is one of the reasons a number of decent coaches do not want to consider coming to UT. If he wants to give money to UT, I applaud that, but it needs to end there... it becomes UT's money. Just like when I give my tithe money and offering to church - it ends there. It is no longer my money. I do not tell the church how to spend the money - I have just one vote as to how it is spent, just like each and every other member of the church. Unfortunately, that is not how Haslam and the UT administration sees Haslam's gifts to the university... they give him too much control. Simple as that... and that is what is killing our athletics program - Haslam thinks he knows coaching... but his job has never been on the line as he walked the sidelines with the headset making the game decisions.

Go Vols...

It's important to get a good fit. Frankly, after the last 48 hours, the mere mention of Gundy and UT in the same sentence should be cause for joy in the streets. At this point, fans need to appreciate the fact that we might come out of this mess in a far, far better way than anyone imagined possible. To utter a doubt or complaint about Gundy is insane. Better be damned grateful instead of moaning about who we aren't going to get. Remember what might be ahead if Gundy says no. I, for one, will support with EXTREME ENTHUSIASM the notion of hiring Gundy as our head coach.

Let's hope this is not another move for a pay raise, like the last time we offered.

Not sure he even thinks he knows coaching. He's a text book megalomaniac. Has nothing to do with UT athletics being upper tier and everything to do with him being in control.. It's a power trip. One could go as far as to say a form of mental illness.

Really wish I would hear that we at least tried here. Wishful thinking of course.

I'd be all for Peterson, and you're right if you're putting up 8.4 mil for Gundy now where was that before Schiano?

Peterson proved at Boise State that he doesn't jump at the money. He had big time offer year after year (USC especially), but eventually went to Washington. If he comes here I'd be all for it, throw him 8 mil and see what happens, you never know until you try. But he's gonna do what he wants to do more than any coach out there.

If you can offer Gundy why isn't he your first call. That's a no brainier. Makes me think someone isn't serious Thoughts?

Gundy is a good coach......but if you would offer him 8........heck why not offer Petersen 10. At least Petersen is one of the top 5 coaches.......and since it would barely be over paying.

Let's be honest Okie State is like Miss State...Have to Play Bama every year (Oklahoma) other talented schools, and you don't always get the recruits you want. UT can pull just about anyone if the recruiting pitch is done right.

With the big$ and offers flying around, why not just offer Stoops about $1M more than Satan is making at Bama? He's not busy right now and always wanted to prove himself against Nicky and the SEC...

The SEC has only 1 of the top 5 t 7 coaches in the Nation and he makes 11......prob going up soon.

Saban
Urban
Sweeney
Fisher (he may now be a bit lower)
Petersen
Shaw
Harbough (he was higher)

Wrong. It’s the Haslams running the show. They want Gundy. Thornton and a heavy hitters want Tee. The rest are scattered.

Exactly.

I am thrilled that they could even get Gundy to return a phone call after that Schiano debacle.

I'll believe it when I see him at the podium in Knoxville but the man can put an exciting offense on the field and we are going to be beyond this juggling QB BS that Jones played.
