Offensive Tackle & OL recruiting

Why make that stuff up about a possible career ending injury? The last report on Hall is that he is progressing well and should be able to participate in fall drills. He probably will redshirt like most all OL should before playing.

Name one player who has been the same since an Achilles injury

IMO we will sell out for Sweet and Allen. Idk how realistic Richmond is. With Sweet, that UNC staff is about to get canned IMO after the year. Allen really liked it here too.

I say put anyone in. IDC if they only weigh 250. If they can move their feet at least they could stay in the way of the defensive end for more time than a total whiff.

Sweet, Allen, Burrell and put some work into Richmond. As matt said when coaches get fired the kids spill all over the place and coaches who have maintained strong relationships throughout the commitment get a huge upphand, look what happened at Vandy last year.

Wonder how Austin Sanders is coming along.. Heard good things about him in the summer.

I wish we could see some different combinations. Although I'm sure the coaches have done that in practice and we're seeing the best we have. I would just be interested in seeing how some different guys respond.

I'm probably gonna be flamed for saying this, but if we can't get a commit from a kid who can come in and elevate our OT play from day one, then I'm not sure I can consider this class a success.

We can upgrade all our other positions as much as we want, but our current OL is so bad that it pretty much negates all of the positive play from other positions. We have to find some true tackles so we can move Kerbyson and/or Thomas inside. Our current OL is starting NO TRUE OTs.

Sure, we'll get Blair next year and maybe Mosley plays OL, but currently of the 4 OL we have committed, the only one who projects as a true OT has a torn Achilles. We MUST find an upgrade at OT or I'm not sure we can see much progress in the win column next season.

I think worley wishes he had more than 1 second to get rid of the ball. Hard to get in a rhythm and have good qb when you get drilled on every play.

Agree on that. Should have clarified a I was talking about once Worley graduates

He has played better than I expected

This offense needs to have someone that will keep it and Hirt a d w their legs though. You can tell it is stifling our run game to not have that threat

I think Worley is plenty fast enough for what this offense needs to do. His lack of speed isn't hurting us, his refusal/not being allowed to keep it is.

Would help the OL a ton of the DL was worried about him too.

Some of these guys aren't going to look as terrible when they get another year in strength and conditioning and get in their true position. We have a few guys that are playing out of position just because we don't have better options.

there is not a high school OL in the country who can come in and be a significant upgrade. Experience is the one thing OL's have to have. The only kid who came in this year and is doing OK is Cameron Robinson at Alabama who was the top OL in the country and even he is average at this point at best.

He was an Ogeron guy so he learned some things. One thing he did was make sure he got a college coaching job in order to help push Michael Oher. That happens all the time but he has always known how to push the envelope. He did some creative things at Lambuth.

I think Richmond could come in and be an upgrade at the tackle next year. Not saying would be all SEC as a freshman. You almost have to be trying to let the other guy win to get beat as much as Kerbyson and Thomas have this year.

I agree. At the very least, Richmond would be an upgrade at RT.

We have to find somebody new to increase the competition at OT. It's imperative.

Normally I would say 4 is plenty but our deficiencies on the OL are glaring. How many commitments do we have now? 25 or 26? I'm happy we got a good CB but OL should be priority number 1 right now. Out of 26 we should have at least 6 or 7 o- lineman. Dooley ignored OL recruiting and look at where we are now. Games are won in the trenches.

I see your point but CBJ and co. also can't pull a Dooley and ignore another position this year to make up for Dooleys mistakes 2-3 years ago.

I don't understand why folks think that this staff has to play O-linemen out of position to field a decent o-line. That is simply not true. To field a decent O-line you put the best available player for each position in each position. Kerbyson is not the best left OT. Kendrick or Sanders or Blair would be the best LT. There has not been an upgrade in performance since they moved him there and sat Kendrick. Kerbyson would be the best RT, even though he is the best RG. Weisman would be the best RG if Kerbyson plays RT. He proved it a year ago. This is the problem with many on here and the coaching staff. They have become enamored with the fiction that Butch is feeding everybody. Proof: the fan base started screaming for them to actually run zone read instead of faking it with the action. So they did a handful of times. What happened? 3 touchdowns by QBs. There has to be other motives in play.

Kerbyson has said he is better at RG and secondly, RT. We saw that to be true before they moved him. We saw Weisman play last season at OG and the staff even said he was their 6th man as a true freshman. We know Kendrick and Sanders were recruited as OTs and played the position exclusively in HS. We even have confirmation from Sanders dad on here that AD says he is "killing it" in practice. They have been in the program two years and are two of the strongest guys on the O-line. Their time has come, but they get shoved to the side for two true freshmen?! C'mon, man! I semi-understand Blair being RS'd if he was not ready. But Blair was recruited by major programs that thought he was talented enough to play the position. There is no possible way a junior with his size and two years starting juco experience could be any worse than Coleman Thomas - who is a C playing OT. None. Time for some truth.

As inVOLuntary thinks - ulterior motive on the coaching staff's parts. Has to be. And I don't think it is working based on the O-line recruiting so far. Maybe it will. But I think it stinks that they would sacrifice a season, fan unrest, and several young men's playing time for a shot at landing a big fish on the O-line that they perceive will save the day. All so they can make Team #119 or Team #120 or Team #121, etc. the one that brings UT back to the top? My Vol fan card of 50+ years will be tossed by then if they keep going with this approach.
