Ok so first three games the offense had trouble getting receivers to the right spots and Crompton getting the ball there. Couldn't even run the right routes. Against Ohio people were running free all over the field and Crompton missed them or threw it late when the big plays came. Against Auburn there were big plays open all over the field all game long and the receivers dropped them or Crompton threw it a step late or both. Gerald jones, Moore, and Warren all had potentially big plays fall through their hands or bounce off their chests. But they were their and so was the ball. Only one pass into Quadruple coverage. I see this as progress for a bad team. And if they can put the route with the pass and the catch its 6 more times than not. this team goes 6-6 as the offense puts it together. Thoughts?????
go vols.

let me see if I understand...our receivers have to run the correct routes AND Crompton has to put it in their hands...AND they have to not drop it...all on the same play?? we're in trouble...

I like the positive attitude. Hopefully, there was some good that came from that game. It has been a slow start, so maybe this means that we can at least get receivers and the qb on the same page for UG.

I watched the game from YY, so if I'm wrong, correct me... but I'm also pretty sure that GJ didn't even run the correct yardage on several 3rd and longs. I.E. we need 8 and he runs 7 yards and cuts.

Passing offense has issues on all levels, not just Crompton. Crompton is still bad, but if he is to continue to improve, he's got to have help from his WRs. Also, they had the swine flu.

I dont know but I had to cover my face when Crompton ear holed Hancock on what looked to be a screen that went wrong.....Warren got pissed and got sat down....This offense is just a mess....We gain 40 yards on the "pahokee Package" and we dont run it again all game???????
Then I think to myself can this year get any worse....and low and behold I turn the TV on Sunday and watch my beloved Titans get their rears handed to them again for the 4th time this year.....I dont know how anyone else thinks about this but Chuck Cecil is not impressing me at all....I just dont believe that we are this bad because we dont have Haynesworth. I think its more then that....Anyone else agree?

oh ya I agree. I'm saying progress, not fixed. GJ cutting 7 yards instead of 8 is better than GJ running a go and Crompton throwing a slant.

Totally agree. I think he's got that secondary thinking "kill everybody" instead of "cover the receivers" I am severely disappointed in that Titans team and since they get payed to play...I think I will booooooo their horrible defensive performance thus far.

Thie season will 5-7 IF we put together a solid performance and beat Kentucky. Sound like I'm crazy? I've seen way too much to see a team and coaching staff out-of-synch with little chance of bringing it back. They are in a situation of now 'trying anything, trying everything' and that means struggling the remainder ofn the year. I have 2 children as students at UT who both say Crompton is cocky and with an attiitude of 'not my fault' just think how that tyranslates onto the field. I'm a VOL fan forever and it takes courage to be one, but this season is headed for 5-7, no bowl, and hopefully still a good recruiting year.

I agree with the OP. We are not far off from being a decent team. The pass plays are by far the biggest problem with this team, and they there for the taking. We just aren't executing them. We're losing games by 10 (on the road to the #1 team who wanted to run it up on us), 4, and 4. That's not Vandy level ineptitude. It's not good enough, to be sure, but we're close enough to touch 4-5 more wins this season. At this point last season there was no hope whatsoever of being competitive.

I've seen progress from Crompton, but lateral if not digression from our WRs. I've still got hope that our passing game gets it going. If it does, we still have hope for this year.

Yeah, I know.

Progress - Crompton didn't throw an interception.

How do you get to your 4th game and not be on the same page as your receivers..........

or miss A 6'6 tight end wide open in the end zone with no one within ten yards of him?

Have y'all forgotten we were 115th in total offense last year?! We are now 56th with horrible QB play. I would say that's progress.

You may think I`m crazy but I think we are getting closer to putting it all together. I think that before long we will have a good offense. We need to send Warren back to Fla. State.

We are getting better. We have lost three games, but were competitive in each games, not like last year when we were getting blown out. I might be crazy, but I finally seen something out of Crompton in the fourth quarter against Auburn that resembles a quaterback. All we can ask out of our team is that work hard, get better each week and fight for 60 minutes, the wins will come. We are very close to turning the corner.

progress...the o-line didn't give up a sack and the run blocking has vastly improved over last year, even with the injuries and moving guys around. The hurry up offense has improved. If we could get the wr's coached up like the o-line guys we'd be in decent shape.

A guy who climbs from the bottom rung of the sewer ladder to the middle rung......is still in the sewer. I see what you're saying but it doesn't really alleviate the frustration.

The flip side of that is what if we were still 115th in the country this year. Everyone complains about the weather or is the glass half full or empty. I still do not understand how people thought this year was going to be magical. Last year we were 115th in the country and this year people thought we would come out and be world beaters.

I thought we would at least see improved quarterback and special teams play and beat the teams we were supposed to beat. Right now, at worst we should be 3-2. With a compitent quarterback we beat UCLA. With a compitent quarterback we are in a position to beat Florida. With a compitent quarterback our defense isn't on the field the whole game against Auburn.
