I thought it was interesting that Darnell Wright moved back to RT immediately upon the start of Spring practice, with Crawford and Mincey going to LT. Given the importance of the LT position, that tells me the staff feels really good about those two.

247 had a free article about Mincey: Florida transfer Mincey settling in on Tennessee's offensive line

I’m pretty optimistic that Mincey could become that stud, prototypical LT that Tennessee hasn’t had since Tiny Richardson. At 6-6, 337, athletic, long arms, Mincey fits the bill. And Elarbee calls him “intelligent” too.

If Mincey or Crawford (or both) can step up and be a stud at LT, this OLine should be good. I’m not worried about the other 4 positions.

Could end up being Steen on transfer at LT…

EDIT: Guess not. I hadn’t seen he narrowed it to 3. I thought we were still in it.

I do believe one of Crawford any Mincey can lock down that LT spot. Both look the part honestly. Worst case we move Darnell bask to LT and start Dayne Davis at RT. We know that works at least decently.

I have nothing against him personally but if we’re starting Dayne at the beginning of the season then that’s not going to be good. I remember Kyler Kerbyson constantly criticizing Dayne’s play on his podcast and so I’ll take his word for it. We desperately need Mincey or Crawford to step up at LT. Otherwise we best hope some really good tackles enter the portal post spring and we land one of them.

Really thought he would be a good fit for us....no guarantee he starts at Bama, if that is where he's headed....

I agree. The coaches moving Wright back to the right side of the line says a lot about how they feel about Mincey and Crawford.
If they stay healthy, that gives us a solid rotation across the entire line.

Again, if everyone stays healthy...that seemed to be a big factor in the 2021 campaign.
Not that last year's line was bad, just seemed like they underperformed in key situations.

We had 666 yards of offense and only two sacks given up on the game, and we rushed for 288 yards. By no means why we lost that game. Just look at penalties and the secondary if you want that answer.

Davis wasn’t good, in spite of those numbers. Watch the film. The good thing about a bad RT, as opposed to a bad LT, is that the RT’s whiff happens in front of the QB. Many Davis whiffs in that game didn’t result in sacks because Hooker saw it and avoided the sack. But it still disrupts the play when a QB is having to evade a tackler instead of looking downfield.

When able to consistently run plays at the pace we do it absolutely helps. When teams fake injuries and the game slows down we struggle. Hopefully we find a way around that. I'm hoping it's just the OL getting better and establishing some depth.

I’m confident Heupel is addressing this in the off-season. We’d never seen flopping as widely used as it was last year. I think that’s #1 Adjustment Heupel & staff has to make since flopping is here to stay evidently.

And Hooker was pressured every drop back in the 2nd half by the man he was blocking.

If the 2021 version of Dayne Davis is on the field at any time in 2022, we are in big trouble.
