Offensive line problems

Wrong, most of penalties and missed blocks that killed the offensive output were from #51.
I saw 3 penalties. I didn't see the missed blocks. Johnson just looks lost most of the time. He's looked that way all three games.

Drew Richmond was terrible today anybody we got could've probably done better. He has to be a worry going into the Florida game.

And he proceeded to miss his receivers over and over. These guys have no identity and I don't think JG is a guy that really exudes confidence. The Oline may block great one play and then blow it on the next. The play calling doesn't seem any better. I'm tired of them lining up and looking to the sideline. Call a play, execute it with confidence. They were lining up Wood-Anderson and Bumphus and going heavy on one side and still weren't moving the pile much. Not hiring a veteran OC is going to look like a bad move by Pruitt. Helton did not deserve the money considering his lack of experience.

IMO, Richmond had a bad game but hasn't played as bad as the others in the first 2 games.

Still don't understand where Chance Hall is.
Still recovering I would imagine. No need to throw him out there if he isn’t 100%. We need in I’m this upcoming stretch

Last week we had 414 total yards and won 59-3. We scored off of two turnovers and had 3 penalties for 19 yards.

This week we had 512 total yards and won 24-0. We gave up two turnover and had 8 penalties for 65 yards.

The scoreboard does not reflect the dominance in this game. The team shot themselves in the foot in the redzone with turnovers and penalties.

JG missed one deep opportunity. IIRC, they had a drop. One pass was behind #7. I can't remember the other incompletion. Better yet, he appeared to put them in the right run play most if not all of the time. I have been critical but some of the improvement in the run game we saw was him finding the soft spot and getting the O into the right play.

All OL's block great then have bad plays. The playcalling had a purpose and it appears that they wanted to work on the run game. At no point was that game in question.

Everyone in CFB does that now. You aren't going to "execute" a play if you are constantly running into the teeth of the defense.

Just to be sure you know how it works... the O lines up, the D lines up then the O staff in the box look at the D alignment and signal a play down to the sideline. A play call or change is signaled in. The O comes set. Most of the time the QB has the option to change or adjust the play at the LOS based on defensive shifts.

The reason almost everyone does it that way... is that it works.

This was a scrimmage. They let UTEP know that they weren't going to throw it much in the 2nd half. They went jumbo. They ran the ball and put some stuff on film to work on.

The mistakes cost UT some scores. The D missed some turnover opportunities as well. The stuff you are complaining about... didn't make this game as ugly as it was.

58 is bad. 51 is not much either. I do like what we have been doing on offense though. Pruitt is a teacher. Against these last two teams he has been forcing them to run the ball and teaching the team how to be physical. There will be tremendous growing pains, but in order for us to have any long term success we have to be able to run it. We don't have the horses to just outscore people. Maybe we are doing that because we can't throw, but I tend to think it is more of a teaching strategy we have been seeing. Every team has good plays, the coaches know how to be chalkboard champions at this level, but the good teams have a system and a method for making those work. I believe the early stages of that system installation are what we are seeing.
As far as QBG goes, he either doesn't see things or doesn't have the liberty to make sight adjustments. The was one particular play in the 3rd quarter where we lined up in 10 personnel with the back to the right. UTEP lined up in a 2 high shell and the backer opposite the back lined up splitting the rb and the left slot which put him in almost a 20 alignment. The safety was over the slot but 13yds off the ball. Seeing that I thought grass read, easy 1v1, but we shifted the rb which caused the lb to shift and ran a bubble screen into a congested area. Turned out okay but was kinda stupid.

Correct, 2 off his incomplete passes were drops by Johnson. So, I guess going what should’ve been 14 of 16 is “over and over again”. Roustabout just doesn’t like JG and there’s nothing he’ll ever be able to do to change it.

Right side of the line (Richmond) is awful. The rest is serviceable and did fairly well. We rushed for 300+ yards. We had a HUGE problem with execution and stupid penalties when we had chances to score. That’s lack of focus by the players.

Out oline just doesn't seem to work well as a unit. Maybe that's why there was so much moving and swapping of personnel during spring and fall camp.

I know Botch left us in a bad spot with OL & DL so much that we could spend our entire 2019 class on those position groups. But with CPF stepping in and working with the OL at practice, this week was about UF and other close SEC games on our schedule. The key to next week is rush offense and time of possession. I think the message all week and in the game from CJP was we will run the ball and you will successfully run block. I think today was about a huge amount of run plays in a live scrimmage for the OL. I don't think the staff was concerned with the point spread, but improving on what we have to do in order to win next week.

I've noticed that we have the most success running the ball with a lead blocker. Our OL just can't get a push/create holes without help... We always look a man short. I expect to see more FB/TE lead runs as the meat of the schedule arrives.

Agree it's going to take time to turn this O line around. 300 yards rushing is great but 81 came on 1 play and we were playing a team that has lost 15 games in a row now.

Geez, if we didn't bust a big one some would say...why can't we just bust a long run. Also, yeah we played a bad team, but our OL in week 1 couldn't have done what they did today. They are improving and regardless of the competition you still have to get assignments and timing right. We were doing that at times today. Moreso than any game thus far.

No one in America disagrees our OL was atrocious to start the season, but with good coaching and injury luck they could become a serviceable unit by seasons end. They took a step today. It was good to see.

I'm going to disagree. I thought they played better today than they have so far this season. There were good lanes at times and timed up well with the RBs who hit'em just right for some big runs. Good protection most of the game.

It's a huge work in progress to go back to a power run game. Today was a step in the right direction.
I agree but I feel like we will be overwhelmed by a strong SEC DL
