Offensive coordinator search thread

Worst case, he’s low man on the totem pole, saw it, then did tell people he saw it.

Freeze literally called for hookers on a state phone, lied about it and paid women for their services.
And? Again what is inherently wrong with consenting adults exchanging money for services? Don't like infidelity cool call him out on that, but quit acting like he is satan for engaging in paying for sex.

I don’t think that Helton was a bad coordinator but the silver lining is that it gives us something to BS about other than how bad we were this year.

So you’re telling me this guy knows how to party?

Glad to know you're not even commenting on the argument at hand. Says a lot about where you are in the situation. Get over it. You already admitted you accept Freeze because he's a good coach and won't accept Schiano because he's not a good coach. That's the only point here.
Knowing about child rape is a lot different than paying a consenting adult.

Would love to see Freeze here for as long as we can get him, especially with his recruiting ability. But with our luck we will probably wind up with another Bamer.

Have to agree with you about the recruiting. I hear Freeze has the bagman in Memphis on speed dial.

I’m not advocating for Freeze at all, because I would prefer the “above reproach” quality hire. But he has proven himself as an offensive force in the SEC and against a particular opponent Tennessee is keen on competing with. The position of OC has many more checks and balances than a HC would have, and certainly for someone with any type of history.

Damn Helton is bringing USC's QB Coach, who coached at WKU too, with him. I think theyll get back to the days when I was there with that spread offense & score 60 a game lol

Pay for it one way or another anyway, why not make it a cash (or Wal-Mart gift card) transaction....

I assure you it was not the OC at Missouri that beat Tennessee two weeks ago. It was a superior QB that has beaten us the last two years.
I know, I just couldn;t resist. Their offense is just as good as it was last year before he got there. But having an NFL QB really can do wonders to your offensive reputation. Look at Kliff Kingsbury.. Case Keenum, Johnny Manziel, Patrick Mahomes...

I wouldn't be surprised if some of these individuals wanting Hugh Freeze to be OC probably also said Mike Leach didn't represent "Tennessee Values".

He brought in a lot of 4* and 5* recruits to Ole Miss. Even if he was here for a few years we could stock our shelves with some good recruits!

Great in theory, but in today's win-now-or-else world, its a) have a great season and risk your now-hot coordinators leaving for HC jobs, or b) continue to suck because no one wants your sucky coordinators. Sadly, it doesn't seem you can have it both ways.

If I have to make this Hobson's Choice, I'd rather have a 1-3 season rental on a sh*t-hot coordinator that can take us to the top, than continue to be 'stable' at the bottom with poor-to-mediocre coordinators. But, that's just me.
Who says you have to hire a poor coordinator? I'm just saying don't hire one that's going to leave after a year.

if you are dating or married, don't kid yourself... you are still paying for sex

and usually a lot more

Schiano was so tenuously connected to the Penn St scandal it is quite a statement to say he "knew about child rape." His name came up in second-hand hearsay testimony and wasn't even admitted at trial.

I wish people would just be honest at why they really didn't want him as a coach, which is that we had our hopes up for a splash hire and it ended up being Schiano, a backdoor Haslam plant who didn't appear on anybody's list and who likely would've been an awful coach here. That's a perfectly fine reason to be against his hire - just be honest about it.

So by the reports of those saying Schiano knew, he told them. That’s how the reports state it. But let’s ignore that.
Put Schiano's baggage on about twenty other coaches around the country, float them for the TN job, and you would not hear a peep. I'm talking the Peterson's, Saban's, Harbaugh's, etc. for a while. Schiano was reviled because of his head coaching record and no other reason whatsoever.
