Offensive coordinator search thread

So based on the updated list so far it’s Freeze or a bunch of high school coaches or a Friend. Lol, yeah this search is over.

We have played this game before. The plane with Freeze will be on the Knoxville runway thirty minutes before Friend is officially announced.

Don’t get excited anyone.....

This search was over months ago. Friend will be announced day after NSD.

Also, why is everyone assuming it’ll be someone Pruitt has coached with in the past? Had he coached with Helton?

Schiano was loosely tied to the Sandusky disaster and we pretended we had standards. The revolt was more about not thinking he'd be a good coach. We used the morality clause as our scapegoat. Now because we think Freeze's offense is "infallible", we can ignore his firsthand transgressions. The Tennessee offseason has officially become more exciting than the regular season.
One used his work phone to call a hooker. The other may have helped cover up child rape. If you can't see the difference then something is very wrong with you. Nowhere near the same.

Prostitution should be legal in my eyes. Therefore, Freeze did nothing wrong (unless he was married).

And I can hear those same moms talking about their time visiting with Freeze and siding with him. Freeze has made it clear time and time again in the past year he is solely to blame for his issues and no one else. He’s owned his problems and has done a great job rehabbing his image. The recruiting against him is bogus as he would be in those same living rooms talking to those same parents.
You just keep posting. Are you Freeze's agent?

Based on what CJP wants to do with his offense (power run game), it doesn't take a rocket scientist to run it. Move Friend to OC, Weinke to QB, and hire a proven recruiter to RB coach.
Do it before Dec 19th NSD and move on. All this talk about HF and KK ain't going to happen.
Jim McElwain is the one guy with play calling experience that would come to Knoxville. He was a good OC...not so much a HC. Also.....having a guy with SEC coaching experience on the sideline and meeting rooms couldn't hurt.

edit: Just had a long conversation with a well known Bama guy who played for Saban and McElwain(OC). He said he was the smartest guy in the room and tough as nails. Just saying

Apathy still has a firm hold on me with the program.

Seeing these threads, and remembering last year's coaching debacle, reminded me again as to how much this is still true.

One day we shall rise...one day.

Yes. Either promote the guy with the worst performing unit on the team, or hire an inexpensive 'up and comer' position coach. Just dont do anything bold which might offend anyone or challenge anyone.

The Tennessee Way.

I think this makes the most sense... head coaching experience, great offenseive mind and can utilize the current terminology
He seems to be an RPO king and that’s what kids will realize that the NFL is currently going to. I get so tired of hearing RPO during a game I could puke but it works.

1) Dan Enos + Hurts + Tualia
2) Joe Osovet -> 20 years experience with RPO and successful at JUCO level (tough kids to work with)
3) Mark Freeman + Tualia

The thing that bugs me about McElwain is that he won big at Bama as the OC with Bama players, which it seems anyone can do with the players they have. I know he did okay at CSU but then he flopped at FLA.
I'm just not sure how good he would be here with the guys we have right now. We need someone who can keep a defense off balance.
I'm more on board with guys that can innovate and have proven they can win with less. Examples would be someone like a Kiffin, Freeze, James Franklin, or Briles....
If CJP want to run a smash mouth system that's fine but we are years away from getting enough players to be successful doing that in this league.
Even Saban has moved away from that because he knows he has to be explosive to win. Bama can still play power football but that's far from all they do. Hopefully CJP will think the same way.
Thankfully I am not a coach and I trust CJP to make the right hire.
