I think there will be a couple changes on how the offensive coaching is structured for next year.

I think Harry may be let go. I am not saying 100% he should be, but I think he may...I have seen Dooley rip him on multiple occasions on the sideline, Dooley is not afraid to make changes to his staff-A LA Chuck Smith.

If you let CHH go you can shift Coach Chaney from helping with RB's to focusing on the OL.

Chaney coached OL in the pro's at St. Louis before his stint at TN and was OC and Oline coach at Purdue during all his success there. He is obviously up to the task.

Then we hire a top notch RB's coach/recruiter and give him run game coordinator title or something along those lines to increase his pay.

I was thinking about this after reading a thread on VQ and this seems to be the best possible change to get the offense to operate at its full capacity next year.

Any thoughts?

Fire Chaney and Joseph.
Wilcox to coach DBs
Hire a OC that can develop a running game in the SEC
Hire a RB coach

This would also help us recruit top notch RB's to the program.

Anybody have any ideas of some good RB coaches out there? Jay Graham is doing good at South Carolina but I was thinking of someone with a little longer coaching/recruiting experience.

That is too extreme...Chaney is calling good games, we just aren't executing perfectly which is due to the youth...our Oline is the main area that seems to be regressing.

Joseph was dealt a tough hand with this unit when Janzen was suspended...he also is our recruiting coordinator and does damn well at that...I am willing to give him another chance.

The only reason I think Joseph needs to be fired is because Wilcox can coach DBs, and we need a RB coach to land an elite back. Joseph is the least impressive.

What about the line in pass blocking? Probably the biggest improvement out of any unit on the entire team. The problem with the run game is Chaney's scheme IMO.

Why does Harry need to be fired?

I honestly am not sure if he does...just someone needs to go to open room for a good RB's coach and Chaney is well qualified to handle the OL.

The only reason I think Harry may be in trouble is the way I have seen Dooley absolutley rip him a few times in games...after false starts, and other bonehead penalites or bad blocks.

The pass blocking is good, which I would hope Chaney could keep up.

Well that is good logic as well, but don't you think that Joseph was hamstrung a little this year?

If the problem with the run game is Chaney's scheme then he needs to adapt it next year to fix it...we ran fine under him in 2009...how much of that was Kiffin I don't know, but he can figure it out I believe.

T Horton at Arkansas should be looked at for a RB coach an recruiter. He took an overlooked Knile Davis and turned him into a 1300+ rusher last year - got hurt in Aug this year. He's also a great recruiter

I don't think Harry will be replaced.
He used to coach in the NFL for several teams, one that won a Super Bowl.
I don't think Dooley has the kind of resume thats going to attract a big name OC at UT.
I wouldn't replace Chaney either, though I don't like his play calling usually.

I am marking this post so when we have one of the top offenses in the country next year after NO coaching changes, I can bump it and laugh at you all.

Laugh away.

We can have Bray, Hunter, Rogers and Patterson all healthy and still wont win more than 8 regular season games if we have to go to the shotgun to get a 4th and 1.

Or if we can't muster up anything better than dead last in the SEC in rushing. Not hating. Just saying.

Next year will be the critical for certain assistants like HH.

I dont believe Dooley will keep them around if they dont perform

Batey at Vanderbilt is a stud recruiter and can coach running backs. he has WRs at Vandy.

Bill Napier is an administrative assisitant at Alabama. another stud recruiter who could coach running backs. He is someone that will be on a staff somewhere next year. Too good at recrutiing / coaching to not be fulltime staff member.

I really think we will have a very good run game next year, current talent we have with more experience and we have a RB coming in who looks to have great vision and ability, hopefully its translates to the SEC.

With everyone we have coming back... if we still have trouble running the ball next year, then I would be willing to concede the conversation of coaching changes. Until then I really think any change in coaching is going to hurt us.

Uhhh no Hiestand didn't. Zero rings for him.

As a Bears fan, was thrilled when he was canned.

this .. I'm still up in the air about dooley, but right now we need stability and recruits .. if nothing else he appears to be doing well on those accounts.
