Offense will be Better, Defense Will Not

Chavis was decent.....He played a bend don't brake defense. We gave up a lot of yards but not the big plays. Now the problem there is that you cannot keep your defense on the field all game and not think that when the 4th quarter comes around that they are not going to be tired. We needed a D. Coach who is willing to take a chance and leave the number 1 safety in the country on a island by himself.....He makes plays that is what Berry does and Chavis would not blitz to save his life. We have some pretty dang good talent in the secondary and it is getting better with the upcoming guys as well. We have got to send some pressure and force these QB's to make decisions and take advantage of the bad ones they make!
The UCLA game gave Chavis away last year........He had a great plan in the first half and forced a lot of turnovers. Then Chow and Rick N. put together a great game plan for the second half. Now, Chavis who does not know how to make adjustments kept the same approach and a 3rd string QB with a makeshift offensive line put up 300+ on us in the second half....
We needed a coach who can adjust and Monte can adjust. We needed a better D-Line coach and we got one with Ed O. And we got rid of Larry Slade and his pathetic ability to coach the secondary.
It will be so much different to see our ends crashing down every play instead of playing coverage and a Linebacker or safety coming off the edge for a take out hit on the QB....I was tired of watching our boring defense. Now we got some excitement back.
And of course no more giving up third and long.

Hell, if our offense had been composed of all student math majors, they would have played as well--probably better--than what Fulmer/Clawson and Co. produced. That was the worst Vol offense I've seen in 30 years....So if it's not better we're in a boatload of trouble.

As for this year's D, We are very weak at LB and not very stout at DT--two rather key positions!--so Monte may not find his first year so enjoyable...I think we'll get better fairly quickly as recruiting picks up, but right now there are holes...

I think our defense will be much improved this year. There are lies, damn lies and statistics. Statistically the defense was good but how many good teams did we play that required them to play four quarters. The UGA, UA, UF and USC game were over by the fourth quarter. Auburn sucked as bad as we did offensively, MSU sucked offensively as did Wyoming, UCLA, UK and Vandy. We ranked third from the bottom of the SEC defensively in 3rd down conversions and in sacks. I think we improve in each of these areas and the secondary will be full of ball hawks.

i actually wouldn't be surprised to see a little bit of a drop off in D this year, at least in the secondary. we've taken a hit back there this offseason.

if tennessee can beat ole miss and ga, they can certainly beat auburn..

If our offense is any better at all than last year we will beat bama and auburn and give florida a run for there money. And as much as our D was on the field they deserve that number three ranking and i highly doubt our secondary will be soft.

the D will be good enough to keep us in games and hopefully the offense will be good enough to gie us some wins in the close games. the o cant be any worse than last year though. there was times when our offense got the ball i just went ahead and changed the channel and waited for our d to get back on the field.

So our defense will be worse than 3rd, and our offense will be better than 87th. Also, we will win some games and lose some others.

Look's like we have Nostradamus in here.

I actually think our offense will be better than everyone thinks and our defense will be a little worse than last year. We will beat a few that we are not supposed to and lose to a few that we shouldn't lose to.

Please stop the meaningless threads! Your a complete baffoon!

I honestly believe you have never been to a UT game and that you have to be a Bama fan, because of your mindless thoughts

The offense can't get no worse! D will be fine but probably won't be ranked as high as last year but will be a top 10 defense.

Hopefully we'll have a more mentally relaxed defense than in the past few years. If the offense is better and stays on the field longer, the defense won't have to spend 60 minutes in a "take back the game!" panic. Defense for the sake of defense is a far cry from defense for the sake of making up for lackluster offense.

If the mentality is right and the defense isn't pressured by a poor offense, I see even more takeaways and scores by the D this year.

I think the O is completely unpredictable and could be anywhere from a miraculous surprise to a worse disappointment than last year.

I think the D will be better because of coaching, DL play, and ESPECIALLY gameday coaching. Chavis was horrible at playcalling and in-game adjustments.

lol, that our defense was good last year,we played like 5 teams taht sucked, like ucla, wyoming, few on paper view, lol, cmon our defense gave up 40 points to florida, and 30 to bama, let ucla quick pass on our cb's,so with monte coming from nfl,and been caoching professional for 30 years, and have great schemes, get real this defense will confuse qb's offensive lines, etc, remember tampa bay was top 5 defense every year and this was professional qb's and offensive lines, monte has a way to fake blitzes, drop back, some were in the same as pittsburgh defense ran.
