I thought it was interesting to note a few things:

--We are averaging 485.1 yards a game in total offense, however, we are allowing 484.9 yards a game on defense.

--The Vols have scored 331 points this season, 3rd in school history and the most since 1995. We also have put up the most offense in 9 games in school history at 4,366 yards. However, the defense has given up more yards to opponents this year as well.

--We are ranked 23rd in scoring offense at 36.8 pts a game, but our defense is ranked 110th at 35.4 points against.

--Tennessee has allowed at least 300 yards passing in four consecutive games, following a 23-game streak from 2010-12 in which UT did not allow a 300-yard passing game.

It's tough to swallow and sad that a historical offense so powerful is being overshadowed by the worst historical defense in UT history.

Insider gave me Missouri's first-drive scripted gameplan. Pass Pass Draw Pass Pass Draw Pass Pass Draw Pass Pass Draw Pass Pass Draw Pass Pass Draw. Looks solid.

pass 7 yard gain pass sacked for 10 yard loss draw play on 3rd and long 26 yard gain then the cycle goes on repeat till the last 2 drive of the game so that tennessee shows "extra effort"

If Reggie White were still alive, he'd stuff five 7-11 hot dogs up Sunseri's nose, then subject him to an extended sermon on living up to the potential that God gave him. Then he'd head butt him and pile drive his unconscious corpse. Just saying.

Same players making the same mistakes from last year. Not enough ready to play newcomers to offset their sorry asses. A more complex defense with dumb mid-level talent players is a bad fit. The defenses Sal runs should work. Watching the tapes you can see the mistakes plain as day. Film don't lie. Our defensive talent is highly over rated.
The bottom line is with the type of defensive players we have we needed to come out scoring early and often. We had to outscore everybody. We needed to come out and win games on offense with this team. But our offense sputters around in the big games. We did outscore the bad teams. The good teams, not so much. And here we are. 4-5.

Funny. Reggie was so good, according to Mike Ditka, that he literally took the offensive right side of the field away from you. In comparison, you could tell this defense that you are running left, and you'd still get 17 yards. Worst Defensive Ends in history. They still do not understand how to "Set the edge" of the defense. Constantly setting up out of position, and getting sealed inside the play. Our inside LB's are constantly trying to run plays down, that should have been turned back into them. I played defensive end for a bit, in high school. It is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. Very frustrating to watch. Depressing, actually.:peace2:
