Which are you more excited about and which wins us the most games?

We all know what Tennessee's offense looked like last year, and if we get more production between Dobbs and the receivers, look out. Also, with a new defensive coordinator and a few seniors opting to come back, our defense will be stellar!

Being great on both sides of the ball will be fun to watch. :salute:

The offense and special teams is and was there. We had the talent on defense last year just didn't have the right philosophy. We have that now. We will be a very balanced team. Good at all 3 parts of the game, offense, defense and special teams.

I expect the O to improve a little, and the D to improve more.

STs needs a boost in the 40+ kick department, but hard to improve anywhere else.

Defense. I'm excited to see how we'll look under Shoop. Also, I'm looking forward to how Gaulden performs this season, I think he could be a really special player.

It would have to be the defense. Shoop will run it to perfection. On offense the run game will be good. But dobbs missing wide open receivers is gonna be the difference in 10-2 and 12-0.

Considering the defense was a big letdown in the 4th quarter of games that is the side of the ball that will win us the games we lost last year. That's why the Shoop hire is so huge. Offense may improve by a few points and may have a few more big splash plays but it's hard to beat having 31 points per game. The defense needs to worry about giving up no more than 15-17 points per game and we are golden.

Agree with what's been said. Defense is what I'm looking forward to seeing this fall.

KMac knocking a Guard on his heels...

Kongbo spin movin' a Tackle and baptizing a QB into the ground (I'm thinking of pretty boy Eason here).

Gaulden laying the wood on a receiver coming across the middle...

JRM meeting a RB in a hole and putting a WWE smackdown on his butt...

I could go on but I'll stop here. Yea I'm ready!

It was stated in the course of Tuesday's SEC Media Days Coverage that Bob Shoop claimed that he "never met a blitz or press coverage that he didn't like." Big Orange fans who wanted a more aggressive defense most definitely will get their wish.

The Defense by far. Not knocking our O one bit but is there anything more blood pumping than a sack or int

Also Shoop was the most exciting hire of a coordinator I've experienced in my nearly 30 years as a fan. We couldn't have hired a better play caller for the D we have in Knoxville.

I saw this post earlier, a good question IMO.

I was going to proclaim D right away for some of the reasons you mentioned Duncan.

After thinking about it though and remembering all the worry and tears about Debord he actually proved to be pretty creative despite I think at times still feeling his way back into the job.

I think (read as hope) we see more inventive formations like he began to show last year. More of the I formation/weak/strong using a TE as the H back in certain situations. More pistol instead of shotgun.

Debord was certainly more creative than Jancek last year and I think Shoop as DC and facing him in practice/discussing strategy will and has forced Debord to evolve the playbook even more. Consider, there was a RB jump pass last year as well as a WR screen throwback to the QB that went for six.

All said and done though, I'm gonna say Shoop's D harder choice than many may think.

Our O will be good.

Our ST's will be good.

Our D should dominate.

While I can't wait to see Shoop and our Big Orange swarming D wreck other teams O I have to admit 1 thing here.

I'm mostly about to die to see buTch and DeBord get Dobbs, our WR's and TE's rolling like the talent says they should.

I honestly expect our O line to pass block much better to give Dobbs more time to throw more accurate passes.

I believe this is the year that our passing game comes alive.

If that happens, BEWARE, our Vols will be hard for anyone to stop!

With a little luck and no serious injuries this should be our year.

I believe that with all my heart and soul.

WIN by WIN Team 120 will earn a Championship...VFL...GBO!!!

The RB jump pass was run at Cincy...Kelce scored on it against Louisville iirc.

D E F E N S E!
During our past decade of mediocrity we have seen our Vols put up tons of points. I will never forget 2012 when I was sitting there looking at the Final score of the Georgia game. We scored 44 points and lost! I couldn't grasp how an SEC East showdown was lost after scoring 44 points. The decade prior our defense was our catalyst to our success. Most teams didn't want to come out of the locker room after half. Most opposing players felt the Tennessee game for the remainder of the season. Why? because we were a downright nasty, hard hitting, fundamentally sound 2 deep group of warriors! Shoop will be given the pieces needed to play Tennessee defense once again, and he will put every single piece together.

This is going to be a season where I wish John Ward could be here for. "Met by a host of Volunteers" will be back! Orange Swarm!!
