Offense Lagging Behind Defense

That's typically how it works. Sounds like CLK really likes Crompton to this point, the OL seems to be alot better than last year, and our RBs, except for Creer, have been impressive. Not so high on the WRs. Jones has been impressive, alongside Rogers, but that's about it.

G Jones has been very impressed with Crompton too.

"He is playing incredible. He is making all the right reads. He is minimizing his mistakes. He is playing really well," Jones said of Crompton. "I think he is competing for the job. He is competing everyday with B.J. and Nick and he is proving that he can be the quarterback."

"Me and him had pretty much perfected the slant route. We worked a lot on routes and he threw me a lot of balls before spring practice started and it has paid off."

G. Jones and Crompton. I can live with that as long as it produces results

At least it sounds like the Oline is getting whipped into shape and is responding well.

From Kiffin:

"We installed a lot more stuff today," Kiffin said. "A lot of short yardage stuff and our three minute offense and four minute offense. I thought that practice started off with both sides playing pretty well. We got into some live short yardage team stuff and the offense won the first five in a row versus the one defense which was great to see. We got into a four minute deal where the offense just had to kill the clock and win the game and the defense got two turnovers in a row, one after making a first down which was a great job by the defense. That is how you win games by making plays at the end. I was real pleased with the defense, obviously offensively we have to take care of the ball better."

Having Orgeron and Monte coach the D-line can only help the O-line when they are going against top caliber comptetition in practice. Go Vols

Offense lagging behind sounds familiar. If its going to be crompton and its looking that way (god help us). I hope they don't drag it out into the fall. Let them know where they stand after spring, so the receivers can work with the 1(more) and the 2(some) during the summer months.

if our offense is catching up and playing well against the 3rd best defense in the country, i can sleep well at night

actually we were and considering our offense was so horrible we were on the field twice as much as those teams were and still had the numbers which is unbelievable to think about i dont know how they will do that again this year if the offense is the same.

No...

We played 6 of the worst offenses in the country last season and the legitimate teams we played went conservative on us after they got a nice lead, because they knew the only way we could beat them is if their offense turned the ball over.

Our Defensive stats were very skewed, but the defense certainly worked their asses off last year.

I think we all knew the offense would lag behind the defense, especially this early. But all this positive Crompton talk has given me a facial tick that won't go away.

I'm going to live on the hope that Crompton will rise to new heights as he uses his senior year to make up for the last one. Yea, I think I can trick myself into believing that. Sure, he'll be better. I was all just a bad dream. Everything will be fine,,,,,,,,,,,,right?:pinch:

UT's D wasn't the 3rd best in the nation regardless of what the stats say. They "aren't" the third best D in the nation since several of the guys who were on that D are gone.

They ARE however a credible SEC D talent wise and certainly coaching wise. The only question mark they've ever had in talent is DT. That seems to be getting answered somewhat but I'd still consider it a "?".

Thats what I keep hoping! Our Offense doesn't look as good because the D is so good.:crossfingers:

Also, I find it hard to believe that our run game will not be significantly better than last years. :rock2:

How many guys are they going to rotate at DT? How much drop off will there be between the 1's and the 2's?
Linebacker is a question mark too i would think. We know rico can play, but who else is going to step up?

Yeah, they weren't as good as their stats last year, but they didn't let many teams in the endzone, even the better ones didn't get many scores. Another wasted defense by a putrid offense. 2005 all over again, no qb, no offense= bad record.
