It wasn't a 52 yard FG before the two pass attempts. It was at the NE 23 before the first pass attempt and sack. It would have been a 40- yard field goal, and that was if they had not gained anything at all on either of the next two running plays.

They just got too aggressive near the end.

Yeah they were well within FG range. Huge choke job if they lose.

The coaches should be in this case. You have the ball at the NE 23 and rather than two running plays and an at worst 40-yard FG to make it an 11-point game with not enough time for two scores, they try to pass the ball twice, get sacked on one, hold one the next, and have to punt.
