Off-the-radar SEC Heisman candidate - Justin Hunter

Considering that Meacham I believe still holds TN's all-time yardage record for a season with under 1300yds and he did so with "only" 11 td's your expectations for Hunter seem awfully...optimistic.

Considering we have a different head coach, OC, offense, and QB I would say your drawing any conclusions from Meacham's numbers as to the potential of a receiver's stats this year seems awfully... weird.

I really think Hunter will end up being the best reciever in UT history. That's honestly how i feel. How he did his first year in, im confident he's gonna explode in a starting role, now that he's the number 1.

I think Bray would get the look over Hunter just for the simple fact is the postion and Bray is the one getting it to him. Isn't Desmond Howard the last Rec to win the award?

I thought I was pointing out how at a school nicknamed by some to be WR-U we've never had ANYBODY go over 1300, nevermind 1500 yards. For that matter only 8 receivers in the nation broke 1300yds last year.

Frankly I think expecting literally any WR (nevermind having to do it in the SEC) to make 1500yds and 15+ TD's is pretty darned optimistic.

The Heisman will not go to a player on a team with more than 2 losses. Book that!!!

Doubt anybody goes undefeated this year. Luck is probably the frontrunner but as bad as I hate Bammer trent Richardson is the best pure RB in the nation. Hes an absolute beast. I think Lane could be a similar type runner. Say Luck,Richardson and Moore from boise will be the top 3.jmo but your prob right nobody with 2 losses will win it but you never know. The Bams are breaking in a new QB and they dont have Julio so Richardson will get plenty of carries. He wont split the carries as much as he and Ingram did. they have Lacy behind him but he isnt a stud back. I think Richardson was better than Ingram,IMO. But I can see him winning it this year especially if Bammer only loses 1 or 2 at the most, which is possible.

If Hunter has a spectacular year, don't you think that Bray would get more consideration because that will mean that he has a crap ton of yards because you know that Rodgers and Arnett (or whoever are slot guy is) will also have decent numbers to go along with What Hunter will have

Justin will definitely have a target on his chest and his back for defensive backs this fall.

Trent Richardson is the favorite in my mind.

My finalist list looks like:

Andrew Luck
LaMichael James
Darron Thomas
Trent Richardson
(Random player nobody had any clue about)

From a statiscal standpoint, Hunter is the most deserving choice on that list. Its a bunch of very talented unproven guys, but Hunter did so much more with the touches he had, he's the only one I can even convince myself has a snowball's shot.

For the record, I don't think he will win it. I also hope I'm wrong and goes all epic season / epic games vs. Florida and Bama.

I love my Vols, love them but I say Demps is a dangerous son of a gun. It wouldn't surprise me if he runs away with the Heisman vote. I honestly think he's the second coming of Raghib "Rocket" Ismail. Give him any kind of space and he's just gone.

Demps comes across as a little bit of a "one trick" pony though. Yes, he is currently the fastest person to ever tote a football (having run a 9.96 100m) BUT in three seasons he accumulated a mere 211yds receiving and 1901yds rushing. Against SEC competition he's gone over 100yds rushing twice, both times his Fr year. His biggest game last year against an SEC team was us...73yds.

He's got absolutely nothing to prove in the speed dept but he's shown nothing, as yet anyway, to make anyone believe he's an elite football player.

You may be right. He was however, injured last year so couldn't do much.

Unless he ran that 9.96 100 meters in football pads then I fail to see the relevance. Some guys carry their speed in pads better than others.

Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee: Hunter didn't catch a boatload of passes last season, but when he did, he seemed to always make a beeline toward the end zone. Of his 16 receptions, seven went for touchdowns, including a long of 80 yards. He's going to be a top target for quarterback Tyler Bray and will have more opportunities to make plays now that he's moved up the depth chart.

Are we talking about being fast or an elite football player? I myself pointed out his speed doesn't in-and-of-itself make him a great player. If we are in fact discussing speed and you are trying to throw some kind of "in pads" argument out there you just aren't making sense. With THAT kind of speed you could in fact be one of those guys that doesn't run well in pads (pure conjecture on your part BTW) and STILL be by far the fastest guy on almost any field you set foot.

As an all-around player I'm still a bit unimpressed with his accomplishments to date (seems a bit fragile, not terribly elusive, goes down a little too easy too often) but it's just nuts to question his speed.
