Odds of winning the East in '12

"tennessee is coached by derek dooley.

south carolina is coached by steve superior."

Still not convinced that Superior is a better coach than Dooley. It is SO premature to judge Dooley's coaching ability right now and it seems only about 1% of us recognize that.

The Dooley era of domination is still just now leaving the starting blocks and we will start seeing hints of it this fall.:peace2:

All Spurrier has done is win 6 SEC titles, play for 9 of them, play for 2 national titles, win one of them........

By his 2nd year, he had finished 1st in the SEC (1990) and won the outright title in his 2nd.

All while coaching a team on probation in 1990 and then fresh off it in 1991.

1. Georgia
2. South Carolina
3. Tennessee
4. Florida
5. Missouri
6. Vanderbilt
7. Kentucky

I think South Carolina will once again be better than Georgia, but UGA, once again, has a better conference schedule. Tennessee and Florida are a coin flip apart, but the game is at Knoxville and we eventually have to beat them, right? Why not this year? Missouri is a dark horse. They looked pretty good in their bowl game, but this is their first year in the SEC, so I think that will challenge their depth.

If Bray shows any improvement with read/run calls, & Hunter is healthy, with CP in the line up. Our run game is going to open up! Plus if even 0ur defense only get a tad better The east is ours. Opponents will have to score on every possession to keep up. We are going to score lots. The success to this season is merely stay healthy!

Don't know if y'all play at Mizzou this year or next but you'd better start petitioning the SEC to get them to fix their field. They play on a turf similar to what the Philadelphia Eagles used to play on and it's extremely dangerous to the athletes that are subjected to it.

As to the original question... I think TN has a good a chance as any to win the East. There may be a lot of equality between the top 4 or so teams in the East and it may boil down to who has the easier schedule against the West.

With all due respect, USC wasn't better than UGA last season. We shot ourselves in the foot over and over, plus our two best backs from '10 were "asked not to come back to school" and our two best replacements were hurt (we should have a much improved running game this season). A good friend and business assoc. of mine is a USC grad and he told me that they had no business winning that game. And if you look at the in-school player rankings, it's not even close. Can they beat us? You bet. Should they beat us. I don't think most experts would think so. Not saying that UGA is all that fellas, just saying that if SOS or Saban had UGA's players, watch out! We'll find out this season if CMR can coach or not. He is a very good man and mentor regardless..............

I agree Georgia should be and probably will be the better team this year. I still think SC was the better team last year. Granted, I didn't watch either of them a whole lot. The games I watched with Georgia, they just looked pretty good. The times I watched South Carolina, they looked a little better to me. Some of that may be due to the dismissals of some of UGA's best players. JMO, and you know how opinions are...

I also agree that Mark Richt is a class act, all the way.

Yes, we were.

Did you watch the game without your scarett-colored glasses? :) BTW, I've stood up for your stadium on this forum. I was there for a Thurs night *AU/USC game a few years back and had a great time tailgaiting with both *AU and USC fans. Train cars are cool!

Sounds like they have the old turf that Tennesse use to have. Basically, Rug over concrete.

Mizzu plays at UTK and maybe Mizzu will upgrade their field before 2013.

UGA has it the easiest...UTK plays bama.

I'm giving you a hard time. :) We were better heads up, but you could literally flip a coin as to which team was better. We were extremely fortunate to win. I think you'll beat us this year, even though I hate to admit it!

I remember that game. Jared Cook dropped a wide-open TD to tie.

The Cockabooses are allsome. Not as allsome as the BBQ, but still allsome.

The following is excerpted from the Wikipedia story on Spurrier.

"In 2005, his first season as the Gamecocks' new head coach, Spurrier led his South Carolina Gamecocks with newfound humility.[39] The Gamecocks, who were not expected to have a winning season by most pundits, rattled off a five-game SEC winning streak for the first time in their fourteen-year SEC history.[40] Included among those victories were historic wins at Tennessee (16–15)[41] — the program's first win in Knoxville[41] — and against then 12th-ranked Florida (30–22),[42] who South Carolina had not beaten since 1939.[42] The Associated Press named Spurrier the SEC Coach of the Year,[11] and the Gamecocks finished the 2005 season with a 7–5 record and a trip to the Independence Bowl.[40]"

Sounds a lot like the job Dooley has done for you. Your predictions on UT may or may not be accurate. I don't know enought to argue with you. I will say that for fans of a team that lost to Kentucky and almost lost to Vandy, you guys sure are cocky. However, no one with a rudimentary knowledge of college football would compare Derek Dooley to Steve Spurrier at this point in their careers.

By the way, maybe a statistician could tell me the last year in which UT had a five game SEC win streak.

:mf_surrender:Florida, Georgia, Tennessee then the rest

Florida is suppose to be mighty tough on defense

Mizzou is better than alot of people think and will do well in the Sec east. They have a better coach than Tennessee does,i mean who doesnt right? Mizzou will beat Tennessee next year and probaly have a better Sec record than Tennessee as well. Fire Dooley! it must be done soon to save Tennessee football as we know it.

:lolabove:

the sky fell.. we had a mattress fire to commemorate its passing... our jv started for two years.. got their azzes kicked for us... they are as mad as anyone here, they are growing up, and i'll bet they are workin hard to get better... not beyotchin every day...

UT will finish a respectable 3rd...imho
:salute:

I listed them because they have won alot of games without a really talented team. I said we will probably be like Arkansas next year, as far as how are games go. We are still a long way away from having as much talent as LSU and Bama, but we are stockpiled at a key spot, pass offense. Just like Arky. We should be able to outscore most opponents.

I understand now. Just the way it was worded led me to see it differently.
