1990: Tennessee undefeated and ranked #3 in the nation, Alabama had lost three games with a first year coach, who had been a loser at his previous coaching pro job....... No way UT loses at home? Bama 9 UT 6!

2009: Alabama ranked in top three in the country. Vols with three losses and a first year coach who also was coming into the SEC without sucess in the professional league.......Could it finally be payback?

If ever a loss deserved to be specifically avenged, that was the night.

I thought about this the other day. Granted, I was merely a year-and-a-half old when this occurred, but I have known about it for a long time.

It would make my day to see us crush 'Bama's title hopes with a victory over them next week.

I was 13, and had just moved to Alabama a couple of months earlier. I had never been so heartbroken by a football game.

I was at that game in 1990. UT had one of the best pass offenses in the nation with Andy Kelley, Carl Pickens, Anthony Morgan, etc... John Majors preceded to run the ball 50x and as we were lining up to kick the winning field goal, Alabama blocked our kick.....returned it to our side of the field and kicked the winning field goal. It was very difficult to swallow to say the least.

how that crew with all that firepower lost ANY games is hard to believe.

as 90vol said, CJM played very conservatively that day and kept his weapons hostered. it was incredibly frustrating as a fan.

that game is second only to the 01 SECC game against LSU as being my biggest disappointment ever in vol football -- and it is close.

i can still see that blocked FG bouncing down the field.

Sad days in UT football history.

Let's talk about the good times, UT blasts Bama Oct. 24, 2009.

Ah yes, the infamous '90 loss. I was there in the stands, man was I disaapointed. That was the classic example of Johnny Majors going into his shell... we had so much talent on offense, and could only manage 6 points. Still makes me angry thinking about that game...

Pretty good parallel by the OP... if we're able to win!

Bama has never forgot that the Vols sent the Bear out with a loss in his final season, and when Fulmer opened up his gash by going to the NCAA, there is bad blood that goes back yrs and yrs.
