It is fun and some times maddening to watch the usual Big Orange meltdown ever year. Is it Freeze or Enos, or how about (a) Friend. Why not just add McCarthy from Green Bay or one of our own in Jim Bob Cooter to the list of possible hires.

I think the reason is this, we are rebuilding and most of the big name coaches want to be head coaches in the near future and very few want to take a chance on be associated with a team that is rebuilding and DOES NOT have an OL able to block his scheme now and are at the minimum a 2 or 3 year project.

Freeze can walk into a better situations than UT today. Think about if you were an unemployed coach and you could spring board your career fast what would you want on your resume' . Coaching an offense of a team that is trying to go to a lower tier bowl or one that is fighting for the National Championship. Why do you think Lyle is the coffee boy.

Tennessee will never throw big money at a Head Coach or Assistant . They never have and I doubt they ever will, just check the past 50 years and see what you find. That should also answer your questions.

If that’s the case then we should just stop watching. Personally, I’ll live. But for some, Tennessee football is all they have. Sucks they have no control over their emotional investment.

I mean I would say the 1.2 million per year we gave Helton qualifies as big money.

What is the big deal with Enos? I see a guy that when he had similar talent to what he would have here (at Arky), he failed miserably. He took over a 11 win team (from Butch) and they cratered the next year. He gets credit for Alabama's QB play but every assistant coach at Bama looks like a million bucks.....

If he goes to Alabama- it’s eithb NC or fail and if it’s NC so what, it wasn’t him , they won 5-6 before he got there.
If he comes to UT and they win 8 games and the O looks decent, he did a miracle job and is the greatest show on earth!

Tennessee makes more money than any team in the SEC!

More than Bama, LSU, Florida, or Texas A & M!

Why can't we afford the coach we want?????????

The people who count the money want to hold on to it???????

Enos sucked at Arky? Not what I remember. Going to have to look that up.

Again, people just consume the narrative and don't inform themselves.

Helton's $1.2 million annually is among the top paid assistant coaches in the college game.

From 2017:

Highest-paid assistant football coaches: Worth it or overpaid?

This. I'd hope that Freeze has enough pride/dignity that he doesn't want to be a better-paid Butch Jones-type on Saban's staff....where if he fails, its his fault, if he wins, its Saban and the "system," "anyone can win at Alabama."

If he truly still has the chops, then Freeze should go and resurrect a previously-powerful program, now down on its luck, and show what he can do. That way its him, not the previously-existing "system."

Hey, I know a program matching that description...

Tenn is the only major program with decent-good talent and great incoming talent where Freeze will be an OC under a defensive coach.

*IF* Pruitt will allow Freeze to run his system and not micromanage to get time of possession and affect gameflow... this is legitimately the best opporitunity to show out.

If he goes to FSU, it's Taggart's system.

If he goes to Bama, it's only because it's Bama and he has a roster of future NFL players.

Where have you read or heard how much we’ve thrown out for him? And why do people think it’s always about money. We could offer all we want and that doesn’t mean he or anyone has to accept it. Throwing out the highest dollar amount doesn’t guarantee anything.

I took a look at. I may have been a bit strong when I said sucked at Arky (61, 57, and 27th) in scoring offense by year. One concern was the offense regressed each year though

They had TONS of injuries in Bielema’s last year.

They were middle of the pack in 2017 for SEC teams for starts lost due to injury. The average SEC team lost 27 starts due to injury in 2017 and Arky lost 24....

It is exactly this! Assuming its a given that Freeze is choosing an OC job that gives the best opportunity to showcase for the next HC job within 2 years, TN is it. Other places are more likely to have a HC who wants to meddle in Freeze's system and take credit for offensive production. Freeze turns around TN (who is on the upswing under Pruitt) and he can name his price as a HC in 2 years. Almost any program will be willing to back up the brinks truck and by then the violations stench will have faded under the feel good story of the Vols resurgence.

I dont see that happening for him elsewhere. Bama? he is simply plug and play. FSU? good for HC but if OC, he and Taggart will butt heads. They win, Taggart gets credit, they lose, not good for his rep.

Points well taken but Schoop and Helton were exceptions and neither one panned out for various reasons. How long do you think Freeze with his head coaching experience would stay here if he was successful in upgrading a terrible offense.....one year. Then this starts all over again. Quick fixes that is all we ever want.

I know we are ALL passionate about VOL football but we are a few years away from being relevant again talent wise. Yes we have some good YOUNG players but it takes 22 at a minimum ready to compete in this league to be successful as we have all seen.

Ah, that emotional investment causes us to do lots of crazy things in all areas of life. I am one who has a lifelong investment, but I can let go for a few weeks until we do something....until then I wonder.....wonder.....wonder.....wonder
