Offseason boredom thread:

Alot of hype and excitement building around the Gamecocks and their potential this year. Various news outlets have deemed them dark horse candidates for the East and have been obsessed with Spencer Rattlers potential. With the way they ended 2021, a solid recruiting class, and snagging some solid players from the transfer portal, all signs are certainly pointing up.

I'm not convinced. And the term "Beamer ball" makes me hate them that much more.

Thoughts?

They’re a lot like Tennessee. Exceeded expectations with a first year coach last year, but we don’t know if they’ll take that next step. 2022 will tell us a lot about both coaches/programs.

I suspect the roosters will be sneaky. Kind of like how we dismiss them offhand, but they end up doing surprising things. Just saying.

I agree. I'm not sure all the pieces will come together for them this year, but I'm certain they'll be a better team. Rattler is talented no doubt, but regressed in his time at OK. Also, South Carolina's offense is certainly not Lincoln Riley's. Considering the talent disparity between OK and SC, I don't see Rattler performing any better.

I have spent the last 16 years in South Carolina and know these two things to be sure.

1. This is South Carolina, they do not have a history of success. The best thing about USCe is preseason, because they have not lost a game yet.
2. The second best think about USCe is next season.

I have no ill feelings to SC, in fact, I wish they would rattle Clemson's cage, heck beat them once and humble them a little.

I am taking the Tennessee-Florida approach to USCe, I will believe it when I see it.

USCe has the potential to improve this season but until it happens, its all preseason hype.

Their SEC schedule includes trips to Vandy, Arky, UK and UF and then they get Mizzou, UGA, A&M and Tennessee at home.

Don't see them beating Arky, A&M or UGA so 3 losses there.

They had better beat Vandy & Mizzou so 2 wins there.

Don't realistically expect them to win at UK, likely another loss.

Who knows what UF will be but the game is in November so the gators may have their stuff together by then with a new staff, possibly another loss.

Tennessee, another late season game, hopefully another loss.

Assume they split UF/Tennessee and that gives them 3 wins to 5 losses in the conference.

I think the commentators just like to say "Beamer Ball" 100 times a game. Seriously, I would expect them to be a little better this year but I wouldn't place my aspirations of winning the East on the shoulders of Spencer Rattler. Apart from having a cool last name, I'm not really impressed. WGWTFA

I expect them to Be a 6-6 type of team. Rattler won't have the offensive talent around him like he did at Oklahoma last year. He will be an upgrade at QB for USC jr though. Their SECW opponents are Arkansas & Texax A&M.

People forget the only reason they made a bowl game is because they got to play a Florida team that had totally mailed it in. They were given a gift.

The UNC game was impressive, but that team was a 6-6 ACC team with no confidence in themselves after a disappointing season.

I think they'll be better, but they just don't have the dudes.

Would take a miracle and a half for them to surpass UT and UK in the SEC east. They are a 4th or 5th place team in the east.

An upgrade? Didn't they have a coach playing QB last year?

I just want to beat the breaks off them really bad this year. It will be our first game since watching Dooley take a knee at almost the 50, with 6 points needed to go into half-time tied with Bama, with about a minute left, with Tyler Brady throwing it. I wasn't sure I wanted to pay to see another game to see Tennessee tap-out, but then CJH and Hooker immediately break records and look good doing so.
