i don't think we can truly judge our d-line from this game. bottom line is cal's rb's are just flat out fast.

What does their rb's speed have to do with the fact that our dline couldn't shed a single block or get any sort of qb pressure at all. I'll go out on a limb and say that with a slower running back our d linemen would still be stuck to their blocks all night like they were.

I knew this team would have to keep improving over the course of the season if we were going to see any real success. What I did not know is that we would start off so poorly. There is more room for improvement than we can hope to fill.

i may be wrong.. but o neal and vinson were semi-open for what would of been the longer gains of the day

o neal tried to dodge a safety, and if he runs straight thats pass int. (maybe)

and vinson got interferred with on two plays in one drive

Ya both O'neal and Vinson were interfered. That pissed me off.

i may be being overly-optimistic, but they were both open and just seem to me like they could have some fun in the open field

I think that if Vinson had come up calling for the flag, he would have gotten it. I've seen it too many times. Instead, he walked 10 yards and then motioned for the flag a few times.....the refs aren't going to be convinced by that point.

Granted we may not have had a true deep threat on the field much last night but except for a few calls last night (specifically the series where we had it first and goal inside the 5 and came away with 0) the offense played more than good enough to win.

The main problem is the defensive line. Got very little push, only remember one tackle by them for a loss and no sacks. Not only did the defense not tackle well they were out of place and took bad angles. If we are to win more than are fair share we will have to outscore teams.

We need to recruit every good d-lineman in the country.

Congrats to Cal. Revenge was a more than adequate motivator. You guys are blazing fast and Jackson is the real deal.

For the Vols-

Kudos to: Erik Ainge, Arian Foster, and the young Wide outs- they preformed much better than I expected.

Boo's to: The defensive line- you guys were neutralized all night. The young DB's- caught out of postion too many times. Speical teams- just plain stunk it up.

kick out of bounds sucked, desean jackson is... well... really good.

other than that, colquitt's punts were really good especially the one that bounced along the sideline

punt return and kickoff do leave a bad taste in your mouth though

I'm just pissed off about all the talk over the offseason about how the defense was focused on getting physical up front. After the Outback Bowl, the D vowed to get tougher...based on what I saw last night, they actually look softer.

Among other guys as well because they spoke about Denarius Moore all this time and he had one pass thrown his way?

You'd think that since all they were doing anyway was this dink and dunk to the WR's for the most part, that they would put in the potential playmakers to run THOSE routes and catch THOSE passes and see what they could do after the catch.

Instead we ended up at the same spot where we started without knowing if any of those guys can play in a game. Trying to force it to O'Neal and Vinson, despite the interference, one or two times isn't going to give you much.

Why did Creer get only one snap?

Hardesty is going to end up being one of those guys that always got talked up but when his career is over there will be nothing to show for it.

The offense was good enough to win last night. I was fairly satisfied with the production...other than having 3 downs inside the cal 5 and coming away with nothing.

It's the defense that really frustrates me.

Yea it could have been, but I don't think that was all his fault, Ainge got pressured quickly and launched the ball at him. Anyway, one sight of that and Fulmer reverts back to coaching scared.

I wasn't there, but the background of the bay at sunset, with the mountains and city were beautiful. They kept showing "Tightwad Hill", too. That looked like a fun place to be.

Good crowd, certainly nowhere near as rabid as an SEC stadium. I liked the sightlines and scenery inside the stadium. However, replacing the antiquated wood bleachers and widening the insanely narrow concourses would help the palce immensely.
