1. Why decline holding penalties? If you don't think your defense can hold them under ten yards a play well then there's a problem.

2. If you don't think your offense can't punch it in from the one foot line then there's a problem. Obviously, you have no confidence in your offense or defense.

3. Stop using youth as an excuse. OK had two freshmen starting on their o-line. I never heard coach Stoops using youth as an excuse.

4. A coaching staff can be judged by the half-time adjustments that are made. OK staff made adjustments and out coached our staff easily in the second half.

5. Seeing a team come from 17 down in Neyland is disturbing. Largest in TN history.

6. I'm sorry but Colton Jumper cost us that game. He had two penalties that sustained their drives leading to two TD's. Is he really the best MLB option we have?

7. To have all these 5-star receivers on the team and they are non-existent. Play Calling? A lack of coaching them up? What is it?

8. Coaching staffs can be judged by the halftime adjustments that are made. There is no doubt that OK's staff badly out coached our staff.

I love what CBJ has done in bringing in recruits and changing the culture; however, the X's and O's matter. I hope to see some success in the near future or I'm afraid we will languish in mediocrity. You can't hang your hat on the SC victory. There was a time a few years back when SC was an afterthought and we would beat them easily.

There will be some that defend and some that agree but no one can deny we gave Ok that game. Horrible!:banghead2::banghead2::banghead2:

It's obvious now. Butch can't coach. He has a nice offensive system that he just runs. But if it doesn't naturally score points he doesn't have the gusto to create points. No 4th and go for it unless the game is on the line in the 4th q. He doesn't do any trick plays to through the defense off. He just runs the same plays. That works if you have a Cam Newton or a Tebow who are better than all the other players but even Nick Saban does some unorthodox things when he needs to. I watch that game and if it Les Miles no way we lose that game. If it was Oregons coach no way we don't get points after that int in OU territory.

Butch is a poor game coach. Folks this is yr 3. Butch had 102,500 est. reasons to put Hurd in and punch in in from the 1 to 2 foot line early in the 1st qtr. YOU MAKE A STATEMENT. 7 pts off that turnover hurts OK more, demoralizes them more, 3 pts encourages them that the defense made a stand. Inability to capitalize on turnovers in a BIG way. Same thing last year against FL. It is looking like the norm with Butch and now he's back under .500 win pct :rock:

I was in shock. Even the call was shocking. Use the spread option like OU did. I was shocked because I knew it wasn't a playaction. It was straight up o line vs d line. I don't get Butch. He has an offense that is built in to score points and you don't have a conservative mindset. Even if he had half the going for it attempts of Mark Rhict we win and we would have won 3 more games in 2013 and 2014. This isn't going to work.

The biggest issue as Steve White pointed out on Twitter is our coaches especially on offense do not make adjustments. Oklahoma did and that is why they won.

"Did you been"??? Finish second grade by any chance?
Fade that was a good one! I just do not understand why we have to or have excepted excuses about our program. We have the 5th most pro's in the NFL. We have won championship. That what we saw Saturday night was bs. And it should not be tolerated at Tennessee! The oh we tried bs is over its time to win! Point blank period and butch needs called out on the carpet on this!

Look, I didn't like much of what I saw from the coaching staff, but gosh almighty at some point players have got to make plays. Alex Ellis absolutely just dropped a sure TD pass, and Medley's FG attempt was just garbage. So, while the coaching wasn't excellent, they put us in position to win it and the execution just wasn't there. Lot's of blame to go around.

Good post, OP. I don't think people understand the importance of #2. That would have been an explosive moment, made an eventual 21-0 game, given confidence to one unit while deflated the other. Just a huge decision to not trust your guys to get in the end zone, gives OK defense confidence. The way OK was holding, even if UT didn't convert 4th down, I think a holding call in end zone was very probable. That moment was the one I knew would come back to bite them. I just had a feeling the entire game it would.

It was a giant **** show. The entire second half I just had this sense of impending doom in the pit of my stomach. We couldn't score despite excellent field position. I just knew the defense would eventually give out, being on the field the whole game and all.
This offense sucks, butch seems clueless on how to get the ball into our numerous playmaking wr's hands. Did Wolf even get a ball thrown his way? Alex Ellis dropped a TD, why is he even getting targets in the red zone over , well anyone?

I will say that being up 17-3 the winningteam doesn't usually have to make as many adjustments as the.losing team.

I don't nderstand 4. Many have complained about half time adjustments. Heck, we had completely shut them down and the offense had moved the ball, at least a good part of the first half. What adjustments were needed at halftime?

We were shut down very early in 2nd qtr.

Some on this board are critical that the coaching staff made no adjustments. Many others are critical that they went away from what was working. In the second half:
OU started exploiting the weak side of our offensive line;
We lose Maggitt and later TK with Cam missing some snaps due to injuries;
Dobbs was pressured and inaccurate;
There were drops in key situations;
Jumper's 3d down penalties kept a tired defense on the field;
Those are personnel issues that don't necessarily result from X's and O's.
Last year we were simply manhandled in Norman. This was an evenly matched game and ended as handicapped. It is time to learn from the mistakes and move on to WNC and Florida. These young men have been getting and will contnue to get better. We are competing on a much higher level than last year. GBO

Well let's see. Their offense adjusted and moved the ball on us. Their defense adjusted and shut us down. Oh, never mind.

The biggest issue as Steve White pointed out on Twitter is our coaches especially on offense do not make adjustments. Oklahoma did and that is why they won.

Now that I've seen the game on DVR the most striking thing to me is OU adjusted defensively at halftime putting a mirror on Dobbs, man coverage, and brought pressure seemingly every snap in the second half. Ater that there were breakdowns somewhere on every offensive series. A bad read or throw by the qb... Poor execution/good defense on a couple screens... a breakdown in protection... WRs not getting open... Absolutely killer penalties.

We didn't adjust well offensively which gassed the D. What's worst of all is I think the second half will be a blueprint for good teams to defend Dobbs... mirror him, leave the wrs one on one, and pressure the oline into a mistake, defending both the run lanes and producing pass rush. Until we show a look that beats it or win one on one matchups both in pass pro and outside Dobbs is gonna be rendered ineffective.

Last night hurt... We had every chance to win and defend our home turf. It's a long season, and can still be a successful one. I believe in this team, but the lack of second half football IQ is disturbing. The team has been great regarding penalties during Jones' tenure but that 4th quarter was ugly.

To end this rambling, I will continue to support Jones and his effort to rebuild*... but, if Jones wants his team to have a killer mentality then he should put them in a spot to kill. 4th and goal from a foot out... show some heart man.

*I reserve the right to end suport for Jones and his staff at any point.

Probably the same ones as mentioned in#8.

Maybe something like, "If they cover the outside, throw the ball inside." Yep, something revolutionary!
