I was at the game yesterday and here’s my two cents:
Emmit Gooden is our best interior defensive lineman. He consistently collapsed the pocket and stuff the run while he was getting reps. Say what you want but that kid can play.
JG is our guy at QB. Has the best arm on the team and it’s not even close ( hopefully we get to see shrout play and that may change my mind) pocket awareness is much better than last year except for the one sack he gave up trying to run.
Jeremy Banks is going to be a good one.
Only thing that didn’t take much of a step forward was the offensive line play for the run game. Now the only that stood out to me in regards to that position group is they improved as the game went along in which tells me they need more time to gel.
That’s my thoughts feel free to criticize

Good comments and couldn’t agree more. The line has played better each game later into the game. I think when they settle in as a unit we will see us take a step forward as a team. I think our pass protection has been better late in games as well but that comes after we spread the defense out with the run and balanced attack.

Hope to see some more pressure on the QB, honestly think we can play with most on our schedule besides a few and every those few if we gel on the OL and our young secondary get comfortable

I was at the game yesterday also,JG May be our best option at QB... but he continues to let the ball go late! First big completion would have been a TD if he had of turned it loose earlier... But he’s light years ahead of last year!!
Agree100% on Gooden and Banks! Also thought Calloway played well!!
Secondary may be a challenge this year, but those young ones are going to be good by late in the season!!
Great win yesterday! Good to see us beat a below average team the way we are suppose too!!!

Agree with all this, excellent takes imo. Would maybe dispute your Gooden take, although he was very, very good yesterday. I think Tuttle is Also playing very well, including last week vs infinitely better competition. So, after yesterday perhaps Tuttle and Gooden are 1 and 1a imo.

OL and pass rush need to improve big time before league play. I like our depth at RB.

Chryst had 100% pass completion and a TD. JG had neither...and there were 59 points.................

There is potential there. I trust CJP on personnel decisions. Agree that the more they play together and review film, the better they will get. My big takeaway from the game was the forced turnovers. Boy, has that been awhile and man did that light a fuse. CJP defenses are known for forcing turnovers. Heck yeah! A lot of good new people like Gooden, Murphy, Chryst, Taylor, Banks. And #84 is going to be a great one.

Don't forget Kyle Phillips big number 5 was batting passes all over the place. He's a big reason for the turnovers yesterday!

I agree. I've seen both games and OL seems slow. Even our best lineman seems to get beat on speed rush several times per game. And apparent missed assignments when no one touches a DL. I expected more break away runs against ETSU. But good to put up 59 points

There are good things to take away but remember it’s ETSU. We played better but it’s no real test to see if we got better.

O line got better- no matter who we played. The O line needs synchronicity and with new scheme, new players will be a work in progress. Interior line needs work the most, also remember Smith was just cleared to play August 20th, not even close to 100%. THEY WILL GET BETTER-

True but right now what this team needs the most is reps and between practice and the games these past two weeks it gives them exactly that. It's like a mini summer camp that we desperately need. If they can master the fundamentals over the next 2 weeks we have a shot at 6-6

I think this team is going to be a lot like 2009's team minus the off the field fiasco. They'll be competitive but will pull some games out close to the end of the season.

But he put us on the goal line with his arm for what 35 of those points...

It would be hard to argue that the goal line has been like a force field for him, both this year and last. He definitely needs to get past that for whatever reason.

You’re right but I could care less if he throws any touchdowns. If he can lead us down the field and we run it in from the three yard line 5 times a game wgaf

You can't be serious? I can't think of a more disappointing recruit since maybe Chris Donald. At least, Phillips has seen the field but he has never been a game changer like Barnett, Mayo, Jackson, Berry, etc. The guy has all the physical tools but just disappears for a majority of the game.

I'm not saying your wrong overall because you're not but yesterday he did a pretty good job.
