but for the record I am not looking forward to the 3rd saturday in October.... This year that is.

How could you not be looking forward to the game.

Bama has their QB problems too. We have a great shot at beating them down into their rightful place in the SEC.. beneath UT

box score lists him as a freshman. Not sure that they'd clarify if he was a true freshman or redshirt but it just says freshman.

I'm about 80% sure he's not a true freshman - I could be wrong though - but I believe I read that several times from UCLA fans.

I'm hoping that we're going through Saban's first year instead of the two or three guys before him...

I am too. I don't know if I could stand 3 or 4 more years of this. But, I will do whatever it takes to support the Vols.

He is a RS. They said so in the telecast. Said that he got hurt as a JR in HS, then got hurt in the first game his SR year in HS, then RS...meaning he had not had a meaningful snap since JR year until last week.

again:

most new coaches take 3-4 years for their systems to work well. Urban Meyer and Nick Saban are really more exceptions to the rule rather than the standards

Care to elaborate on this subject?

Urban had a lot of talent in the stable when he took over. Zook may have not been a good coach, but he got players.

4) Monte. I don't know how to feel about the Defense. They look tough as nails but they looked tough as nails (and were) last year. My gut says that a true freshman shouldn't be able to do what he did today against a defense that is supposed to be as close to the NFL as you can get.

This is the only one of your points I disagree with. I don't know what else our defense could have done. They were on the field the whole game were constantly put in terrible positions. The D held them to 5 FGs, one of them was missed. Giving up 186 total yards is about as solid as you can get...

On UCLA's 5 scoring "drives" (for lack of a better word), the Bruins averaged 7 plays for 32 yards. If they only gained 32 yards before they scored, that should tell you how close they were to begin with...

Hahah, You guys think I'm drunk because I say we can beat Bama? What kind of fans are you?

I can't believe that some of you are scared of Bama that much. Goodness. Didn't Bama lose their precious John Parker Esiason Manning Cunningham Wilson Sr. QB?

Who they got now? Did he blow someone out today or something? I have no idea.

Tough loss. I thought UT was going to pull it out in the end. I do have to say that I was a bit "underwhelmed" by the play calling from 1st & goal through fourth & goal on what could've and should've been the game winning drive. Also, I think Hardesty should've been toting the rock then instead of Brown. Good points by Birmingham. Don't lose heart. UT will be back to being UT. It'll just take a little time.

What would you have done at the goal line? And remember that passing is NOT an option, we have Mountain Damn Values at QB...

Hardesty had 26 carries. Brown had 11. Hardesty had the carries on both 3rd-and-goal and 4th-and-goal...

right, but that again's my point. Urban is not the classic, standard case of a program getting a new coach

I think for some reason alot of people here think that a new coach is supposed/usually goes the way of Urban and Nick...which is usually pretty far from the truth

They don't think you're drunk because of your feelings on who will win between Tennessee and Alabama. They think you're drunk because you said we're having problems at QB when Greg McElroy has been as close to flawless as a QB can be.

He only had 5 incomplete passes today (2 of which were dropped in the endzone) going 18-23 for 220 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT's. His game against VT look similar though I don't have the stats in front of me.

Seriously? I've seen several very good things out of McElroy, and I believe that given time will completely blow JPW's numbers out of the water. Besides the fact that he can throw it past the line of scrimmage without putting it into A: the ground, or B: the hands of the other team, makes him a step up from what we got.

Go Vols!

First of all... is any one else nauseated by the fact that an Alabama fan is posting on this blog? The defense looks pretty good. No defense holds up when they are put in tough spot after tough spot. The bad news, Crompton is all we've got for now. The good news, I didn't think the O-line looked that bad, the running backs are outstanding, and Crompton can't get any worse. Go Big Orange!
