Observation about Alabama

folks, i just made a weekend trip to Atlanta from Memphis, which meant driving thru bama for a good 4 hours. well apart from trees and nothing else, i ended up seeing a million Bingo places. i know we make fun of their primitive ways and such, but it was just weird seeing our stereotypes in person. literally nothing there except for a bingo place every corner. hope this fuels a meaningful and foul mouthed discussion about our single digit toothed friends down in AL.

Go Vols!

Next time, we would appreciate it if you would go around. Thank you.

This thread is great.
You got Bammers claiming, they ain't, imbred, backwoods rednecks. Vol fans claiming, the big difference in culture between the 2. Heck, I've had bammers tell me I talk funny. I married my sister, so there is not a lot of difference I don't guess.:)

Step sister that is.

I have driven from Memphis, TN to Rogers, AR give or take a hundred times. That's taking I-40 all the way across the state. I-40 was concrete slabs that felt like driving on a washboard. I can't tell you the missery of hours of hearing/feeling thaaa-thunk, thaaa-thunk, thaaa-thunk.

They've replaced all the slabs with asphalt. It's a really nice stretch of interstate now.

I'll echo that. Years ago, from Memphis to Little Rock was about the worst stretch of road I have ever exprienced. It was terrible because it was a constant up and down feeling as you coasted down the road. Seriously, every second, you would bounce up and the sound would get so annoying, you would have to turn your radio wide open.

However, as mentioned, the road system has been upgraded and now is pretty comfortable to drive on.

Mississippi, on the other hand, simply can't figure it out. At one point, they used to spend twice as much money on their prison system as they did on education. Instead of educating the public and keeping them out of prisons, they just built more prisons for the criminals. How hard is it to figure that one out. Then again, we are talking about a state that sucks so badly that the trees in Tennessee lean towards the south.

They don't salt their highways during an ice or snow storm and rarely clean up the shredded tires from the 18 wheelers who often travel the roads.

When I first married my wife, we lived in Mississippi and when we bought a new SUV, the license plate fee was $1,000. I was used to paying about $40 in Tennessee so it blew my mind. I used to ask the locals where all that money went and why they didn't put more money into their road systems.

This makes me wonder how in the world those frat boys from UM could yell out stuff like "Hillbillies" and the typical "we are better than you" garbage that I heard in 96 when we played them at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis during the regular season. At the end of the game, we had won with a score of something like 42-10 and they were still running their mouths. It was at that point that I realized that Ole Miss fans had long ago given up on their football team being good and had resorted to trying to make sure that they had the better party atmosphere instead of the better football team.

One time my wife's friend, an Ole Miss alumni, and I were arguing over football and she resorted to talking about traition when she realized UM was outclassed by UT in football. She claimed that they were better because they had more tradition. She claimed that this was because every single male student had voluntered to fight in the Civil War in the 1860's. First, I said "really, they VOLUNTEERED", and then I just laughed and told her how pathetic it was that tradition was all she could come back with.

However, they might be a tough one on the road this year so I will wait till after that game to say too much to her.

Anyway, to get ack to my original point, Ark roads used to be terrible but are now much improved.

Everyone out here is a complete idiot to think we don't have redneck ignorant folk in our state too. I've been to bama a couple of times and everytime I was there the people were actually really similar to ours. Not in a bad or good way. I think all you morons are ignorant yourselves to say crap about people for living in a state or supporting a certain university. I have a coach for football (in high school) who played for bear bryant and is a huge bama fan. He is one guy I respect more than any other coaches on the team because of his wisdom, football knowledge, and for living the christian life on and off the field. I think the "pot calling the kettle black" phrase might need recited.

Born and raised in Huntville. My mom is originally from Memphis. My mom and stepfather owned cattle ranches in south central Tennesse for a while. I've been all over Alabama and Tennessee. Both states have some beautiful country and some really warmhearted and friendly people. Both states have some very intelligent people and both have some, shall I say, "ignorant" people. I've noticed that quite a few folks on Volnation like to speak about Alabama as though it is nothing but some kind of "hell hole" populated by nothing but toothless, inbred rednecks. Folks who do that are just as incorrect about Alabama as anyone would be who speaks that way about Tennessee. It's fine to be proud of Tennessee and UT, your home state and university, and it stands to reason that you'd like others to respect them. Respect is not a right, it is something that is earned. You might want to consider that the next time you "trash" another state or university.

Hating UA is the reason I became a Vol fan.

Some of you are blowing it for some of Tennessee fans living in Alabama! We are down here trying our best to change minds and lives! Then ya'll go and talk about the people and then we hear about it. I have been down here for 30 years and I am seeing more and more Tennessee fans, when I first moved to where I live, I was it, now I see Tennessee tags everywhere. We're converting them 1 at a time, help us out!

ps: the roads are terrible!

That's what I've heard. It's been reported the new head coach even hired his dad who supposedly knows something about football. Was in the NFL or something.

I don't know, he is leaving the NFL to go to a college team. He must be a has been, washed up, old man, with a cane, and no personallity. I bet, he can't even hear himself fart.

I was meaning that "everyone" as everyone who is saying derogatory things about people who live or support the state of alabama or its university just for that reason. I'm sorry you don't understand my english. Apparently this great state of tennessee needs to step up its curriculum because I'm honestly tired of being in the bottom ten states for academic curriculum strength. If your six year old wants to correct my writing then go ahead cause this is a message board, not a term paper.

I went to secondary school in Tennessee and didn't find the curriculum led me to write like English is my 11th language.

I was just venting at our curriculum cause I'm going to be a senior in high school this year and school is too easy and I'm tired of Tennessee always rated so low in academics. You can insult my message board english all you want because I can pretty much go to college in tennessee for free. I'm looking at smaller schools because I'm wanting to play soccer in college even though UTK is in the running (don't have a soccer team). Go ahead and insult my language but you've yet to make a good point about anything other than insulting me. But back to the subject. I have been to Bama a few times but the roads aren't terrible, then again last time I went I couldn't drive. So I honeslty can't say.

Good points I'm incapable of. Proper English, I'm not.

By the by, your points will be much better received if in some comprehensible form. Moreover, the irony of being called a moron by someone clearly incapable of producing a coherent sentence might not induce concentration breaking laughter as happened in this thread.

I'm sorry I didn't take ten minutes to post a reply as you did. I can sit here and think up an elequently spoken sentence but I would rather just get my opinon out quickly. I don't have 31,000 posts but of those I've had I'm certain your the first to complain. And if you would read my original post instead of bashing it then you would see I only think your a moron if you had posted derogatory comments about people from alabama and the university just for that reason alone.

I'll assure you I don't sit around and think through making my responses eloquent. I say what I think and how I think it. Doing so from my cell phone certainly slows me, but I'll try to be faster going forward to facilitate more of your apparently unobjectionable genius.
