President-Elect Barrack Obama stated on CBS's 60 MIN. Sunday that he plans to to use his weight as president to implement an 8 team playoff in college football...how cool would that be!?

He is crazy if he thinks he has more power than the NCAA. Playoffs will happen when they are ready and no sooner.

a plus 1 is the superior system and the president has zero authority over the bcs. :)

A plus 1 would be really nice. Maybe he can throw his weight around for a playoff and settle on the plus 1 idea.

Nevertheless, as long as the BCS is as profitable to the big conferences as it is now we will never see a playoff.

I am sorry T-Town, but I think the President does have more power than the NCAA. He could give an executive order to the NCAA to come up with a playoff system by next year or they will have one forced upon them. There wouldn't be anything they could do, other than taking it to the courts. Now, that being said, I do not think he will focus his efforts on this issue nor do I believe he would ever do anything formally about it. It is nice to see his opinion reflects that of the majority on this issue.

I'm not so sure that's how executive orders work. He can't make decisions for the private sector, else he could proclaim free universal healthcare, no guns of any kind, and hope and change for everyone and we'd all have to smile and take it.

keep that socialist away from competitive sports. Last thing we want to do is cut up the Sears trophy and sprinkle it around.

raised by his mom then goes to occidental and harvard law and then spends a good deal of his life in chicago. This isn't a recipe for college football fandom.

he's skinny and doesn't appear very strong either. He can't hold the Heisman trophy without propping it up on his knee.

i'll bet you $1,000 that obama doesn't even like college football.

who does obama support? he's a thug from chicago. what type of college team do they have.

obama could give an executive order to cut off funding to the NCAA since it received government money.

Seems to me that any big revision of the college football postseason would seriously screw with some very big time contracts that are in place with various TV stations. I don't think he can just hop in there and take away their money because it's "the right thing to do". Besides, 8 teams aren't needed in the playoffs. If you're ranked 8th in the country, you've already screwed up several times in the regular season. You had your chance. You blew it. No more than 4 teams need a shot.

I disagree kptvol...I think that it is entirely possible that better teams could have 2 losses than some 1 loss teams...and there are likely to be at least 4 or more no loss or one loss teams....

....these better teams deserve a shot at the title, IMO. Do you have a problem with NFL playoffs similarly (just to try to get a feel for your viewpoint)?

I don't care how good you are. If you are really good you need to bring it every week and not lose 2 games. It wouldn't be too hard to have something resembling the BCS rank the top teams and just take the top 4 BCS teams and create a 1vs4 2vs3 playoff. That would weed out the Utahs and Boise States.

I mean, last year if you go by the top 8 teams... The playoffs would include Virginia Tech, Kansas, West Virginia, Missouri.

If you have a regular season game between two top 10 teams, it is tough to know who is going to win it (unless it is one of the crazy, played nobody undefeated teams). So, I like the idea of having 8 teams in the playoff.

However, I should add that the plus 1 format you're proposing is much more feasible, and I would go with it over the current system.

The top ten matchup in the regular season is essentially a playoff game. That's why the regular season is the best in sports.

Exactly . . . If you want to screw up the best regular season in all of sports, institute a playoff system with more than 2 rounds.

The top-10 matchups during the regular season can be fairly in-bred within conferences. I will readily agree that college football has an amazing regular season...but the best team probably doesn't always end up with the trophy....though that isn't guaranteed in any playoff. I would prefer an 8-team tourney...but a plus one would solve most problems.
