QB's look sloppy. Stephens looks more comfortable in the pocket. If I rem correctly he made less dumb throws.

QB's As of now id say I'd trust Stephens more than Crompton. Neither are no where near Ainge. Crompton eyed receivers alot. Made some really bad decisions on where to throw. More than Stephens i do believe.

WR timing wasn't there at all. Some slow ran routes Some second guessing and stopping on the routes.

RB We have a house full the young guys. They looked real good. Better than last year.

O-Line I seen some great down field blocks when I watched them. At times they where slow and got outpowered. The sacks where from blitz RB's didn't keep the block long enough. I think the same blitz. So they need to learn how to adjust.

Ainge. Looked fine walking around. Wouldn't have known he had surgery. No worries there.
Ainge spent most his time time talking to Stephens after coming off the field.

Kickers. I don't think theres to much to worry about

D Picked up right from last year. I didn't notice any new schemes.

nice summary of the game. doesnt sound like Crompton has progressed. The only knock I've ever heard on Stephens is he's very slow.

Crompton was just off period. He was throwing it too hard or too soft almost every time. When Stephens was off, he was throwing too hard.

All of the sacks weren't from blitzes. I specifically watched Chase Nelson blow right by McLendon off of the line on one.

i agree about crompton being off. he just threw a few up for grabs. he also would throw them as hard as he could when the receiver was 10 yards away, as HV said

I thought the Defense looked decent. The offense didn't impress me much except for some good runs. Hopefully things will pick up and work better with some of the new recruits and when Ainge gets back.

It really doesn't matter because it is our offense vs our defense. One will look good and one will look bad. If one dominates, it means the other sucks. If neither dominate, then they are both inconsistent. It doesn't really work out until we play another team.

I agree to some extent, but I really wasn't that impressed overall. You can tell the difference between when there are two bad teams and two good teams on the field.

After watching live and the recording from css
Stephens
I don't think he was all that slow. He moved in and out of the pocket pretty well. His movements are more fluid than Cromptons. He felt the pressure of the D better than i would have imagined. There where a few of the passes the WR missed cause from interference that wasn't called.

The young backs impressed me more than anyone. #2 I think small guy, was able to get lost in the line and get 5 to 10 yards every run.
Hardesty had some good all purpose yards. great work horse back
Olasimbo Looks to be something special. Slow on the open field tho.

Biggest worry Crompton. Honestly I'm just not sold on this kid for the future yet.

The Oline. I think they done a good job
b- The down field blocks again I just love. Most all the sacks would not be sacks in games. They held better than most lines our d faced last year.

I was extremely disappointed in everyone but Hardesty and the kickers.

The receivers looked awful, plain and simply.

I thought the O-line sucked personally. They let a lot of people just slip by.

Coker averaged less than 3 yards per carry. That's not too good. The tackles got dominated by our DEs. I think Josh Briscoe dropped a pass that would have been a huge gainer. The QB play was unacceptable. I'm not sure if the DBs played well, but you can't complain about the results they produced. Whether or not that was solely because of poor play by the WRs and QBs, I'm not sure.

Hey, don't dispair. I'd much rather go into the season with a poor offense that a porous defense. BTW, much speed and help is on the way in the freshman class. We'll be OK.:eek:k:

Our season with a poor offense turned out worse than a season with a poor defense.

But I agree, I have seen many teams that with bad offenses have great years.

"Awful receivers" is not good news for a team that has (apparently) embraced the no-huddle, and has (apparently) no-fullbacks.

Still, spring and fall are months apart on the calendar, and years apart once the season starts.

We'll see.

Go Vols.

this kind of reminds me of last spring....the o/w game finished, and after each scrimmage, we all thought the sky was falling, sefl included.

fact is we were missing a lot folks this spring, have some guys coming in over the summer........it's a fluid situation right now.

overall, i think it probably has worked out pretty well. the good news is we don't have any issues that we didn't already know about. Nothing surprised us good or bad.

i was glad to hear that the defensive line actually looked better. and i was glad to hear that the db's were at least around the ball yesterday.

give those jucos time to get in here, the injured guys back during the summer.......i think we'll be ok.

They suck, gonna be a long year unless Ainge can do something great. 08 the Vols should be really good.

From everything I've read outside of VN, the receivers caught everything, dropped nothing, but didn't get separation enough for major YAC.
