O&W summary

These guys jumped out of a plane at the beginning.

From there it was a snooze.

Pretty much. And only the first 4k people in line for meet and greet was allowed in for the autograph session. Really blew. The big announcement? Team captains. It was free and still felt like a rip off. John Kelly looked better than hurd.

yeah, especially if it's not the norm for the team. sorry no one consulted you on the criteria for being special.

Say what you want. It was misleading and meant to be to draw a crowd. Butch could have said, we'll be having a special announcement for naming team captains at the O&W game. That wouldn't draw crowds though

Oy! Do you know how many walk ons have been declared future stars after the spring game?

I'm not going that far, I know Hurd is a beast. But yesterday JK was the better RB. And for what its worth. Kelly has looked good every chance he has got.

He was the better RB because Hurd is never going to do well when the rules say he is down by touch. I was sitting close and you could see from his body language that he was frustrated that he couldn't railroad some poor bastard.

It might have felt misleading to us joe-shmoe fans, but I guarantee you it meant something to those four young men that were named captains. I bet it was a big moment for them, whether it made any of us all warm and tingly or not.

I have not seen anything on Croom yet-- how did he look/play? This is a big switch for us that could really pay off if he can be used properly....

First offensive play of the game, he was wide open but wasn't ready so Dobbs' pass went through his hands, hit his chest, popped up in the air and was intercepted. Then during 1 on 1s, pretty much ran straight over the DB....would've been a penalty in a game and an assault and battery on the streets. Did make a nice 15 or so yard catch later in the game. Hope he gets locked in this fall...we need him to lock in and contribute this year.

I don't understand this forum sometimes. I read post after post about how we have way too many players injured. But then I enter the spring game thread and read about people complaining about the two hand touch and the snooze fest. I guess people are going to complain no matter the circumstances

Well, Welcome to Tennessee! Understand it now?

Serious man, all you stated was dead on balls accurate.

But you have been here awhile. And you are just now noticing this? :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud:

I got goose bumps early in the game. One of the first announcements over the PA during the scrimmage was "Tackle by Paul Bain". He lives.

Saw this quote from Butch following the O&W game....

"Butch says they'll have the shortest training camp in the history of college football. Seriously."

- Grant Ramey

Why?

The Iverson influence is taking hold fast.

Has something to do with the school schedule. Idk what exactly but it's something along those lines IIRC.

He looked really good physically. He's probably the most in shape guy on the team. Amazingly he looked leaner and more defined than he did as a receiver. He's also moving really well and showing no signs of the injury. I saw an explosive fluid athlete out there.

However, he's still trying to get back his timing and rhythm. Dropped an easy pass. I think by the time fall comes around, he'll be a major force for us.

O&W --so hard to tell anything--It was just good to be back in Stadium I am a little disappointed in the crowd size

Maybe he wants to keep the team healthy. No reason to wear out a veteran team with championship aspirations.

Apologize for not making my question clear. I did hear that the academic schedule shortens up fall camp a bit, no worries, that's just math. My question had more to do with why in the world Butch would mention this? And I wouldn't even think anything of it if Joned didn't have a history of making excuses. Your team is favored to win the East, to maybe win the SEC altogether, is being mentioned as a team to look for to possibly make the 4 team playoff and make a run for the national title...why not embrace it, own the expectations and go full bore "hell yeah, we're a very talented, experienced, very confident team and we're coming, will fully grab the expectations to play in Atlanta for an SEC title and run them. I believe in my players, in the leadership of this team to get us there." Not, "hey, you know, we're gonna have the shortest fall camp in the history of college football". Wth? Nobody wants to hear this junk anymore.

No it wasn't obvious.

Very good hands huh? Not unless Butch ropes at least 2 stud RBs in this next class. We've only seen
Kelly in mop up duty, Joe Young is a big ???, and Fils-Aime hasn't taken his first snap. I see this
as a major problem, not in "very good hands."

You and whoever liked your post are hilarious. I'm a jack*** if I'm saying Kelly plays over Hurd and Kamara so it was and should be pretty freaking obvious what i meant. No need to be a smart*** to me man!! And yes I understand the worry, but Fils-Aime can't be judged yet. He can be great with the elite speed he has, and yes Kelly has only played in mop up duty but he has all the tools to take over next year. I'd like to see us get 2 guys too, but I still don't see a guy starting over Kelly. He's going to be a good running back, and I will guarantee that(barring injury).

Kelly is far from a walkon, so while I understand your point, I think it's a little misguided. Kelly is a stud.

I know he's not a walkon. I'm making the point of how often stardom is forecast in the spring for
players never destined to see the field in the fall. There's nothing misguided about it, unless you're
not a fan of common sense.

On the first one on one with Preston vs Cam, was the pass catchable? It looked like it was a pretty good throw on TV, but I couldn't tell with the camera angle. Did anyone have a better view?

Very impressed with some of the catches even though the receivers were well covered. I believe George, Williams, Blanc, and Eli Wolf all caught passes with defenders on them.

Do you read? I said I understood your point, but that I think you're misguided, and you are, in wanting to compare Kelly to some walkon who shows fleeting success in the Spring. This kid is really talented and would get a ton of touches and be our workhorse at RB this year if he didn't have 2 5 star future NFL RBs in front of him. "Common sense" had nothing to do with either of our opinions. Not sure why you have to be a d!ck on about 99% of your posts on here...whatever.

OK, you convinced me. Kelly is a future first round pick. Hell he should sit out next year and just declare
for the draft!
