O-linemen "considering future"

If they're mad Jack Jones is earning his way to playing time, maybe they should try harder and stop being babies about it.

Was about to post something very similar to this, but yours is much nicer sounding than mine would have been :)

Whatever happened to that common notion that Weisman was this scrappy lineman with a mean streak with a giant heart on the field. 3rd year here and he still hasn't locked down a spot. Don't know too much, but I'm not buying that notion anymore.

We don't have the info the coaches have... but based JUST on how the OL performed with Kendrick last year and what seemed to be his personal effectiveness... his complaint is legit.

Weisman played poorly.

kendrick and jack arent really competing for the same position. Wiesman and Jack are though

From all the reports I've been hearing, Kerbyson has pretty much solidified LT. Jashon is a lock for 1 of 2 guard spots. Crowder is at center and Coleman Thomas has been getting all the reps at RT. So I'm pretty sure that means Jack and Kendrick are competing for the same position.

maybe.

i think the whole idea of thomas playing tackle will once again come to a screeching hault when games start being played.

He may be scrappy but we are recruiting at a high level. Anyone that doesn't develop will get passed. It's the way the world works. These kids need to understand that. But I can't blame them. Anyone that has ever competed at any level wants to play. Not sit on a bench.

I think this is precisely why the coaches are so focused on nailing down through #7 or #8. I think they want to be able to rapidly cycle through options as they see how their "first guess" plays under true live game conditions.

I think they're finishing up putting together a Plan B and probably a Plan C and Plan D. They just think Plan A is the most likely to yield the best results, if it works at all.

And that's one reason (of several) that Kendrick and Wiesman just need to man up and stay in their lanes...if they persevere, their opportunities will come.

why has kendrick fallen out of favor so much? Thought he was one of the better tackles we had.

That's the million dollar question. When he played last year he looked good. Word out of spring ball was that he had locked down he RT spot. Now they're back to trying to put Thomas in at a position where, quite frankly, he was terrible last year. I don't get it.

Don Mahoney I've seen enough. Butch this is your weak link and must be addressed sooner than later. Just mo but our OL needs to man up and be a team. Seeing a lack of leadership here. Hope I'm wrong.

I want to give them the season before reaching any conclusion -- results are the ultimate measuring stick. But I certainly see your perspective, GL, and am starting to lean in the same direction. It does seem from the outside peering in that there might be a leadership shortfall in the position group.

I think Robertson is going to be that leader. Played as a true freshman and is wearing the number of an injured red-shirt senior. Dobbs will also "lead" the group. He's going to want as much protection as possible.

I too am not impressed with Mahoney. But I agree to give him this year to prove his value. First year, he had talent but had to teach a new system. Second year, he had new starters. This year, he has much more talent, more depth, more seniority. If the line doesn't show marked improvement (especially in front of Dobbs), then Mahoney isn't the right guy for the job.

I am at a loss here. It is obvious that I do not know much about each player and what may bring them to the point of starting or being second in rotation yadda yadda yadda. However, what we have is what we have, do you honestly think that the coaches work their arses off to achieve what must be achieved with each aspect of the game of football.. except the goal of having an offensive line that can create a temporary wall for the QB to create a play? I would assume if We know we are rather weak at a position then surely the coaches know?? I am sure they are doing their best to do what they can with what they have. Most of us have been here through the good and bad, I am like you.. I am tired of the bad, let us hope for the best. I trust in the coaches, we have no choice.

This^^^. Butch has proven time and time again, if you're the best player, you will play regardless of age. Time to man up and beat the freshman out if they don't like it. I hope they do.

Really? So, you are saying that Dobbs wasn't a better QB (all things considered) than Worley? And of course, Dobbs played because he was better. Oh wait, no, he played because Worley had a season ending injury. Great job coach Jones!

There are all kinds of political BS going on as it relates to PT. You have no idea. I was personal friends with Woody McCorvey when he was here. Great guy, but he couldn't stand Riggs Jr. Told me so, personally. Also told me he was the most talented back on the roster. But it was Woody's opinion on Riggs (head case according to his own words), not his ability, that determined playing time. Woody went to MSU and Trooper Taylor came in. He liked Riggs and tried a different approach, and all of the sudden he was a 1000 yard back.

i have no doubt that Brett could have some attitude or personality conflicts. That doesn't mean he isn't the best at his position. Coaches are paid to get past this kind of crap.

Does your supervisor, manager or owner always do the best thing for their own business? Hell no. I used to have some issues with my boss, even though, according to his boss, i was the best in the company at my position. My financial success is tied to how well we work together. For years my production was thwarted because i had to fight against management to get what i wanted and needed. About 5 years ago, my relationship with my boss changed, and suddenly my production skyrockets. The result is I'm making him more money. But, that didn't matter back then. It was politics and who he WANTED to see succeed. The sad part is you couldn't convince him of this to this day.

Both Kendrick and Weismann were part of Jones oatrecruiting class when he was scrambling to get bodies.. Weisman was a late commitment .. Remember jaylan Miller and Malik Brown on the DL left last year.. Same deal
