O-Line Starting 5 Predictions

I'm not sure how to embed video here with my iPhone, but if I could, I'd try to provide some video evidence. Iirc, their was a play vs Utah St last year where he got stood up and rag dolled, ending up about 3-4 yds in the backfield pretty much in Worleys lap. That certainly wasn't the only time, just the first one that came to mind.
I saw that too and remember saying "Oh crap" but then I didn't see it happen or him getting beaten all that much in later games... and I was looking for it.

That being said, the irony is that our offense ran much more smoothly last year when he was at center. Also, agree with you...his size isn't an issue. But I think maybe his strength/physicality is.
I could be confusing him with someone else but I thought the coaches praised his leg strength and cited him as a player who had improved greatly before last spring?

Other than the fact that the OL was better with Crowder than without him (which you actually seem to have ignored), your argument isn't with me. It is with the staff who have praised him. I'm guessing they would have been more reserved if they agreed with you.
It's a mute point now, with Thomas deciding to practice his thieving (rather than football) skills.

Out of all the kids CBJ could have taken to last year's SEC media days, Crowder was there if memory serves. Difficult to see that happening if he was soft or lacked a lot of skills.

Coaches take players to media days for two reasons. The first is that the kid's a star, and the media are hyped up to get a chance to interview him. The second is that the kid has the leadership, intelligence, composure and values to represent the program well in front of the media. For the second type of player, being a starter is important, but otherwise talent isn't the biggest factor.

Mack is an offensive lineman ... three guesses which of those two reasons applied to him. :)

Having said that, I'm one of Mack's (apparently few) fans here in VN. I think he adds significant intangibles to the unit. He can absolutely stand to improve in technique, but has great upside that others might be missing.

Did anybody else spot this comment, over in the 3/26 practice thread:

"MAHONEY: @J_Rob51 has really grown up a lot. He's been really vocal. He's responded to the challenge at center."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean Robertson will be getting some looks at center?

I realize that we have to have multiple guys ready who could step in and play it.

Welp, I'm bettin' that Coleman is no longer in the mix for starting center as things stand right now. Maybe if Jashon starts at center, then Kerbyson can slide in at the RG spot where he belongs, opposite Jackson.

That would really be maximizing our strength on the interior of the O-Line.

I wouldn't be against that. Keep Kerbyson off the outside.

Me neither, if it proves to be an overall upgrade on the interior. Butch said again the other day with respect to the OL, that he wants to put the best 5 on the field. Be interesting to see how it shakes out. Jashon would certainly be a physical upgrade to Crowder, but how quickly and how well could he handle the calls/protections? Be fun to watch imo.

Could all of this box shenanigan be a plan by the OL to get Staff to get the line situated correctly? I would buy this, before I believed an OLman would take or resell a box.

Tackles are still a huge concern. The interior should be solid. Hopefully Richmond lives up to his hype and can take one of the tackle spots. Kerbyson would be an excellent guard, but is having to play out of position. Kendrick has some ability. Will have to see if Jones can be a tackle or will he have to move inside. I think/hope DeBord will gameplan around the OT's better than Jake did.
He'd have to be sal sunsari NOT to do a better job working around the tackles than BaJokeian did.

I second that....Mosley and Blair will not be starting from all that i have heard in the media, unless Butch is slow playing it with Blair. And Mosley's arrest could have him off the team for good.

Mosley at the spring game looked out of shape...

Why are people discounting Robertson holding onto his RG spot. Kid is only gonna get better from last year. IMHO, somebody's gonna have to really be outstanding to unseat him.

if Robertson is not the right guard he will be the center. He will start.

this will be game one and barring injury, game 12.

LT Kerbyson
LG Jackson
C Crowder
RG Robertson
RT Kendrick

Staff not excited about it but believe this is best combo they have. very nervous time.

I know it's expecting too much, but I'm guessing this means there's not much of a chance for Richmond to be a freshman phenom?

Freshman phenom is awesome, but dang, I wish we had more experienced talent. I guess Richmond starting would be best for the program if he is solid. Hopefully Kerbyson works out, he looked okay in the Iowa game.
