O-Line Pride

Is it possible that maybe we could avoid a repeat of last year and actually discuss something that does not turn into an argument about the QB?

Back to topic: UT is playing young guys on the OL. That can't help but be a positive for the future. If I'm not mistaken, UT is only playing one Sr. Anderson and Pope are Jr's right? Even the guys that aren't playing have time to develop into good players: Revis, Hood, et al.

Shaw could become the exception to Hiestand's record of putting guys in the pros but after him the future looks much brighter.

Everybody likes to compare Dooley to Saban, but Dooley didn't inherit Andre Smith at left tackle and they had another all-american at right tackle his name slips my mind.

Having all these young players on the line might hurt us this season at times but I imagine it will help out quite a bit in the next few years.

I don't know if Bray will start this year....I sure hope he is ready next year....Simms is one of the worst QBs I've seen at UT that I can remember...I just don't see how Kiffie wanted him over Newton

You will rail against Simms even if he becomes an All American just because Kiffin didn't do what you wanted. Reminds me of the one track minds that wanted someone other than Dooley and all they do is moan and complain about him.

I wouldn't say everybody, but some do. I don't compare Dooley to Saban. What's to compare? However I recognize that Saban is a great coach and he obviously saw something in Dooley that he liked.

Legacy should mean nothing. Why give a spot to a non contributor in short on long term. Perhaps this a why will are starting 3 true Freshman this week.

I probably should of rephrased that. Quite a few people expect Dooley to turn the program around as fast as Saban did, but as far as O-Lineman & Dtackles go, the cupboard was much more bare here than it was down there.

Is there going to be a parade?

Lol,

but seriously, it sucks that you cant use a word like "Pride" now because it is connected with homosexuals.

Why'd they have to steal such a good work like that?

But pride, I like Pride, and I like having pride, but dang* that gay pride bs, it's just not fair.

I didn't say it was a good thing... just that's how the guy got a scholarship. Even at the time he signed the recruiting gurus here were saying he would never play.

Yeah... and 100 years ago if you called a guy "gay" people would know that he was happy.

I really like seeing this type of approach from our o-line. Imagine in 3 years if these guys are bonding this well now.

Seems to me Hiestand is the front runner for assistant of the year.

I've seen a lot of positives from the line from a technical standpoint and a lot of things that will simply get better with time and experience. I was very supportive of the hire initially and have liked what I've seen thus far.

I think people need to stop dogging Matt. He is in there getting killed against some of the best athletes in the country last week and he kept getting up. For the year he is 48/84, 591 yards, 3 td's and 3 int's.

Look at where Crompton was last year at this time. 45/73, 419 yards, 5 tds, and 7 int's.
For those with the short memory, all of Crompton's td's were in the WKU game.

Matt has had some terrible throws that were picked off at important times in the games. I am not saying that he hasn't, but he is playing behind a very young offensive line and against some pretty good defenses(UTM not included). Let the line get more reps and let Matt keep learning the system. I almost can guarantee you that if Bray was in that game, he wouldn't have been getting up after all of those hits. Most of us knew this year was going to be a long year, so lets try to enjoy the little things of seeing the guys competing harder and getting a little bit better each week. GBO!

I don't think it's fair to hammer on a quarterback for, say, decision-making without knowing exactly what his progression is supposed to be on a certain play. Getting flushed out and randomly flinging the ball into where three zones converge is another story.

As a result, I'm not going to criticize Simms for decisions. I am going to criticize for accuracy, which has largely been awful. My wife wanted to watch a few offensive series last week, and after about eight plays looked at me and asked, "Who was that quarterback for Georgia Tech a few years ago?" I said, "Reggie Ball. And it's an apt comparison."

There may be a plan to work Bray in at some point in a few weeks while phasing Simms toward the bench. I don't know if this was a case of "protect the young guy during the tough opening part of the season" or what, but Simms' accuracy isn't even NAIA-caliber.

Most people here know that I'm reluctant to criticize someone currently wearing the orange and white, and I hate to say it, but this offense will struggle with Simms throwing the ball like he has been.

I don't get all the Simms hate, when he had no running game to back him up, and his pass blocking fell apart as the game went along, coupled with a huge lack of experience at receiver.

Not by a very, very large stretch.

You guys really need to wait and see before writing the guy off. He may embarrass you.

This thread I was reading to see what had been said already about Anderson...

But it was funny to read this.

I remember last year getting blasted along with I think it was Sab and LV for saying that I did not want Simms, I thought he sucked and that Cam Newton was the real deal and we should get him.

Would be hilarious to search "Newton" and bump some of those threads on here.

Now of course people will pretend they knew that he was getting money and that we didnt need that headache. Straight BS. Cam Newton is a superstar athlete and if he had not gotten into a fight with his coaches at Blinn that suspended him for some of the game UT coaches were there to watch in person, he may well have been our QB.

First, we probably would have had to pay, and secondly, I'd rather be where we are now with a QB for a future than have 3 or more losses with a QB who will be gone before we get good enough for it to matter.
