Chance Hall at right tackle and Jack Jones at right guard continue to push in practice. Both players could see their most indepth action against the Catamounts. It's possible, if Tennessee is handling its business, that Hall and Jones get almost all of the second-half work, if not some before then, and then coaches will have game film to evaluate that side of the line. Tennessee knows it must get marked improvement, especially on the right side of the line.
As we first reported earlier this week, Drew Richmond has moved to left tackle --- his first time ever at the position --- and his early returns are extremely promising. Not only has Richmond been showing greater understanding and retention, but he's physically had his best week of on-field practice. Venzel Boulware also has been steadily improving. As we were told this week, "It's exciting to think about the nucleus of those four growing up together the next few years" in reference to Boulware, Hall, Jones and Richmond. There's no question that Hall and Richmond are viewed as the tackles of the future, with Hall again potentially earning starting privileges this season. Ditto for Jones.
"We're trying to build depth on the entire football team; I can only speak offensively, but we're trying to bring those guys along and get them extra reps. You never know what's going to happen down the road," Mike DeBord told us.
We then asked, "Does down the road include the competition you guys are pushing all over but especially along the offensive front?"
"No doubt. Compete. We always talk compete don't compare. We want guys to compete and get better. They don't get better if they don't go out and compete at practice," DeBord continued.
