To balance the OP a little. OL play is impacted by the decision making, line calls, and reads of the QB. To that end, there was a difference between JG and KC. JG definitely has the better physical talent. The OL play seemed at first look to be better with KC.

The DL is much harder to explain and particularly with #2, #1, and #5. None of them seem to be producing. Johnson and Gooden seem to be getting better though. #13 IMO should be ahead of #1.

I remain mystified why we do not see Shy Tuttle on at least 4 times per game display a jail break disruption in the opponents backfield. That we did not see it once against an FCS opponent last week with ETSU I have serious doubts we will see it in what remains of his senior season.

Do you think it is possible that the coaches purposely did not run blitzes and or load up on the pass rush so as to not giveaway our future Defensive game plans??

I don't think so, but I could see them not running some stunts in order to save this for SEC play.

I just feel its such a shame that we have such talented skill position players, and they have a wasted year of eligibility because we are weak in the trenches and in the defensive backfield. Both the starting QB and back up QB are very good IMO. Gaurantano when he has time to throw has a hose, and can sling it to our great receiving core.

Also we have a stable of RB's! When you can go 4 deep at RB you are good in the backfield. I mean even Princeton Fant I believe will turn into a decent RB with time, so that is 5 guys in the backfield. We just have an O-line that does not pass block or run block consistently at all, and it really is a shame with all the talent at the skill positions.

I hope things improve along the offensive line, or else the skill positions do not matter near as much. Then we have a solid LB core, but the secondary and D-line has not been impressive at all. I can see the bright spots of our team but the weaknesses have masked the positives so far, and it is frustrating.

Gaurantano is the best arm talent we have had since Tyler Bray, although he is still learning to read defenses. He is definitely the future, but it is also nice to have a guy like Chryst. God knows we will be lucky to make it through the entire season behind this offensive and keep our QB healthy. So having Chryst is great. I just believe that if the offensive line makes the necessary improvements that we will be a pretty good offense. Defensively is a bit more complicated, but I just think it is a shame to have all this talent in the skill positions and not be able to fully utilize it. How can the O-line make the necessary improvements?

Most of these guys are not going to "develop" into all SEC lineman, they are just not.

My take for the rest of this year is see if our coaches can make chicken feathers into chicken salad. What I mean is just sit back and watch the team develop. If we don't have too many injuries then by the end of the year I believe they will be playing well as a team and the skill guys we have can show off their abilities. We are not going to the playoffs and we are not going to a New Years Day game, but we could still make a decent bowl.

It will be next year before we show real promise and 2020 before we compete for the East. If CJP is the right guy, and I believe he is, we can take a lot of joy in watching what a real head coach and competent staff can do.

While I recognize CPF is one of the best OL coaches around in his time, his OLs while a head coach got progressively worse. To the point they were horrible his last couple yrs.

I hope Pruitt and Friend asked for his input and I imagine they did. I can’t imagine CPF getting involved otherwise. Goodness knows they need help.
