If he signs in the early window, he'll probably do it on the last day. Minimizes the amount of time for a leak. Would also make sense why AV has been quiet - waiting for it to be official before giving us the good/bad news.

I just checked this thread for the first time since yesterday afternoon and found about 25 pages unread and thought for sure some news had come in, only to find we have returned to the Atlanta Vol debates once again... I feel like it happens in any thread for a highly ranked recruit that isn't locked up a year in advance. I swear I would rather read every word of a full thread of OD hot recruiting news than wade through another AV debate thread.

Personally, I think he brings great info and I appreciate that he brings, but take it with a grain of salt because we're dealing with high schoolers with a million decisions to make here. I think taking what he says to extremes and seeing it as either gospel truth or total fabrication doesn't do anyone any good. But his record should speak for itself. We're all adults here capable of looking at his track record and determining what he is or if he's legitimate. No amount of back and forth about his info will convince anyone, and if he is legit, it may turn him off from wanting to share info about recruits in the future.

So please, can we stop with taking every thread to an AV debate free-for-all and get back to ripping on Georgiuh and prepping the boom cannons for Darnell?

Many have posted the basic logic with this one.

If DW signs with UGA it will be kept quiet by the UGA staff, and the Vols staff will respect his decision because they have some class.

If DW signs with Vols or anyone else then Kirby will leak it out of spite.

So I guess based on this, he signed with GA because no one has leaked anything yet...

I think a great indicator will be Nieds mood right now on social media... can someone check his tweets etc to see what he is saying?... if he is his regular self, then maybe we still have a shot, but if he is pissy, we lost him... TIFWIW

Has a recruit ever sent a LOI fax to multiple schools? Does the fastest fax machine win? Does it matter if one of them is signed "mickey mouse"?

I believe it’s happened before in recent years but not typically. I think you can sign a financial aid paper with multiple schools allowing them unlimited contact or at least for a while you could. Haven’t seen that as much since the early signing period though maybe thst went away once esp was born

I have no doubt AV has legit insider info as he has known several things only one would know and came to fruition. I just think he got overly cocky on this one thinking no way this kid could be playing each side and was only playing everyone else. I get the national media doesn’t know everything but there are way too many people for months saying UGA. At some point there would have been a slip if it was a game and not legitimate interest. There is that 1 or 2 kids each yr that sort of pulls the rug out from underneath staffs/boosters that made them feel like they had them then BAM reality hits. If the kid is smart enough to pull off this master troll plan then I will be happy but I just find it hard to believe the UGA talk/love is or was ever fake.

If he goes to UGA it shouldn’t be oh AV doesn’t know anything. It should be he trusted/believed what he was being told. Kids tell coaches and boosters same things all the time because they don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or they like a few staffs and find it hard to tell all but one NO.

He never said DW was for sure choosing UT. The national media had counted us out. They had it between UGA and Bama, I believe. AV said it was a UT/UGA battle and he liked our chances. That doesn't translate to he's definitely going to pick us.

I knew Clemson wasn't hitting Top 5 classes until they broke into the CFP... but I was surprised by how "poor" their recruiting actually was.

Composite ranking since Dabo Swinney's first year:

2010: #27, ACC #3
5 4*, average rating .85

2011: #10, #2
3 5*, 6 4*, average rating .87

2012: #20, #3
8 4*, average rating .89

2013: #15, #3
1 5*, 8 4*, average rating .88

2014: #16, #3
11 4* (one was Desean Watson, this is when they started their move up), average rating .88

2015: #9, #2
3 5*, 9 4*, average rating .89

2016: #11, #2
1 5*, 12 4*, average rating .90

2017: #16, #3 (class with Tee Higgins and Amari Rogers)
2 5*, 8 4*, average rating .92

2018: #7, #1 (first time they've had the top class in the ACC in total points)
5 5*, 7 4*, average rating .93

Their early classes were largely normal sized at 20-25 commits with their later classes being small, usually around 20 commits. Still, they only brought in a total of 7 5* players in the first 7 years. Pruitt is closing out his 2nd class and looking at potentially 3, if DW signs.
because of the staff continuity at Clemson, they did a phenomenal job of developing their players.

I would compare it to a college basketball team full of upperclassmen that have played together for 3 or 4 years. They have good fundamentals and development. More times than not, they will beat a team full of 1 and done players.

i think at the end of the day, be it Metal, AV, LA or whoever...they only post information that they have at a given time.

they're not the ones "making" the news. just sharing what they've been told or made aware of. sometimes that's 2nd hand, sometimes not....

and in recruiting, being told something today, can change by tomorrow.

so my advice to anyone reading on these boards........take it for what it is. a snap shot of what they know, or have been led to believe to be true, right now.

i'm way weary of anyone that claims to be an insider and starts making predictions and looking for their "i told you so" ecred.

usually the actual trolls are really, really easy to spot. so what i've found to be the issue more times than not is those that have issues or get triggered about "insiders" are usually the ones that have been the most gullible and put waaaaaaay too much stock in what they read on a message board.

unless it comes from @Bassmaster_Vol he's the only insider here that's still batting 1.000, so if he says it.............take it to the bank.

Because SCAR was keeping up...
SCAR actually did well yesterday. They had 3 top 100 players if Burch actually signs. That’s not bad. Compare it to UF, who had only 2. UF had to sign WR and RB in this class, they struck out on both. They have one WR, #32. Leonard Manuel won’t make it in the class, and they didn’t sign a RB, they could have had EJ Smith at minimum. UT needed DL and did very well there, hit their mark.

This is true.

Had they not hit it out of the park with Watson, though, I don't think they would have taken that step up from "good" to "elite". PSU, Michigan, Texas and several other teams with good talent are struggling hard with that transition because they are lacking at QB and LSU was struggling with that for the exact same reason.

You *need* to have a consistent and elite QB in order to be elite. Look at Bama with and without Tua. It's all on the QB.

Which is why Lyle should be hung from his thumbs for persisting in not having a QB coach here.

But does DW have to tell anyone if he's signed? He's waivered between signing early and waiting. What if he signed early but told the other staff he was waiting to sign? Just one way I could see him possibly keeping the secret until he announces on Jan. 2.

I believe that if DW signs the LOI the NCAA is notified by the staff when the form is turned in. I think opposing coaches must then be notified in order to not “improperly contact” a signee. I just don’t know how exactly opposing coaches are notified.

Wasn't the conversation. Someone was making UGA out as unbeatable due to their superior recruiting, thus the mention to SCAR being able to beat them without recruiting at the same level.

Maybe, but it would allow him to keep his secret. Any coach who took that from him would be immature AF as well.

I agree with both points, but just think it would be a very immature way to handle his signing by stringing a staff, or multiple staffs, along rather than letting other staffs know when you make your decision for another school. If you want your moment to be at the AA game in January then announce in January and sign then. Stringing other staffs along for a month so you can have your big moment at a later date is a bad way to do it, IMO, and extremely selfish.

Not sure about that, but they have sent financial aid paperwork to multiple ones and made schools tweet out incorrect commitment tweets. Clemson and Michigan both have.

Good post. I’ve said it before, college coaches are the LAST sources I listen to. They only know what they are being told. Recruits tell coaches what they want to hear. 1. Family/friends around recruits 2. HS coach(es) 3. Recruiting services (they use the first two FYI) 4. Teammates 5. Magic black ball 6. College coaches

College coaches are obviously #1 on team inside sources but last in recruiting.
