Being excited and having misplaced pride are two entirely different things. Regardless, an entitlement mentality about what these recruits owe you is very AL / KY to me.

Stupid post. This kid had it made!!! Play with the fastest rising team in college sports and had all the potential in the world... He was missing home, had an all expenses paid education at a top notch college and a possible ticket to the NFL. Looks like he is just another Marcus Vick!!!! I guess you can take the boy out of the hood just not the hood out off the boy!!!! An indefinite suspension and no chance anywhere else is what he should end up with!!!!
Thats fine, you can call it an entitlement mentality if you want. My thoughts of what the recruits/players owe is to the fans and alums that support the program that offers them the opportunities they have that a lot of kids grow up dreaming about.

The rambling sentence I copied said nothing about that you believe you are owed, but I think it was supposed to.

First off, BPV, I normally agree with most of your opinions, however, I think it is a stretch to say pride in ones school = pride in oneself. They are both mutually exclusive. As a former military officer, I can tell you that there are certain standards that you must uphold or you damge the image of the military. The same can be said about our student athletes. Like it, or not, the school, it's students, it's alumni, boosters and faculty are all represented by these 3 young men. I want these kids to get their lives together and go on to better things. However, yes, they did let ME down as a Vol fan and donor. You too, if you stop to think about it.

Sure they let us down, but that has nothing to do with the crap I read here. Our fans were almost gloating over the fact that these kids have screwed themselves and might end up with considerable prison time. I find that garbage.
I, too, was an officer in the military, but I was a trained professional and didn't take that gig until I was 22 and I damn sure didn't have to do it with armchair types all over me because I couldn't hover on day 1.

My statement refers to my original point. Which is that I believe that the players owe it to the fans and alums that support the university and its football program to conduct themselves with class on and off the field because they are a representation of the University as a whole.

You think by saying this, I am making a declaration of entitlement. If thats what you think then fine. I think all Vol fans and alums that support the program are entitled to hope and expect that the student athletes that represent the university should conduct themselves in a classy manner on and off the field.
