Now is the time to binge watch last year’s games.

Not a bad assessment of my post.

Our 1st offensive series was disappointing to say the least, in most games. I’ve only gotten thru a few but the 1st play against WV was a bust and then the hit pick against.Fl and strip fumble against the gimps just doesn’t do it for me.

If I could order it up from the film room it would be show me all our 1st series on both sides of the ball for each half.
I understand what you're getting at because I do it myself and for those exact reasons. You won't find a post of mine anywhere downgrading the o line or JG because there are too many things that play a part to pass judgement that you don't see on any given play. The trenches are easiest to evaluate on simple game film because they are in the shot until the qb releases the ball. But on a sack you can't say why JG held the ball, took the sack or didn't run without a clear visual of the secondary. So I'm not on the side of saying the o line was bad like most, nor am I on the side of saying JG was bad because we simply don't KNOW. One thing I do however have to agree with is JG seems to pick his receivers pre snap and it was still evidenced in the spring game on the td to Palmer in the back of the EZ. Jennings was WIDE open underneath where Palmer was covered. But for the most part the o line wasn't the problem IMO.

We did struggle (especially at the beginning of the year) at the beginning and end of halves. It got better (Mizzou excluded) towards the end of the year.

Hopefully that trend from the beginning of the year doesnt continue in 2019. We got more experience at OC and the On the Job Training period hopefully is over...

It’s my understanding that there are pre snap reads that QBs are expected to make to effectively execute a play. At the same time protection reads need to happen too.

I can’t say I haven’t made posts about improvements needed at any position. Clearly improvements are needed across the board based off last year’s results I expect the team is putting in the work needed to accomplish the improvements that will get the ball rolling in the direction we all want.

I like the way JG showed confidence in his Oline even tho their past performance may have not warranted his trust. It’s as if he was setting the tone that he was gonna stand in there and take the hit or make the throw but not give up on a play because of what happened last week or even last play.

The 3rd and longs are hard to handle due to everyone knowing what was about to happen and then it does. Being predictable is a hinder to the success of a play. Even I can stop any play if I know what is conking and can sellout to stop it. For me to get better results he has to trust his 1st read but widen his view to see what is going on with the rest of the field. I’m not sure if tunnel vision is the issue but he did at times seem to make that one read and then lock on to what he wanted to do with the ball with no regards for all the other moving parts of the play.

There is a lot of “low hanging fruit” when it come to improvements. I feel there was a break down of communication last year. There were too many times that players needed help either with blocking or coverage issues on defense due to mismatches that showed up early in games that weren’t addressed and resulted in big plays. If a DB is having problems covering a particular WR when that matchup happens adjustments must be made to give help where needed. Same goes for the Oline. If our line needs a RB in the backfield to help with protection the adjustment needs to be made rather than just expecting him to block better. Sometimes a double team is needed to give a play a chance.

I’ve participated in many sports and have been very competitive in a few, all I know is to improve you have devote time and energy to make improvements. But that goes for everything. We’ll see how serious our guys are about taking the Vols to the next level in August, but now is the time for them to put in the work to achieve what we all want for them and us. On the job training never ends for these guys. I know what you mean, but the training takes no breaks. I know we all need our down time, but gone are the “cheat days”, it’s time for them to produce now in their workouts and free time to and reap the benefits of their efforts this fall.

I think we are both on the same page. If a def is in a 4-3, 5 should be able to block 4 with no blitz. There were times someone just got flat out beat on the o line. In the same breath there were more times that they held their blocks than they're given credit for. Some say JG is the problem others say o line but the truth is possibly somewhere in the middle and maybe even somewhere no one is even considering.

A real possibility for all the problems we seen last yr could actually be a lack of speed on the outside at WR. Maybe LBs and safeties are playing a little closer to the los than they normally do to take away the run AND short passing game. Both are a part of nearly every game plan vs UT. The result on the o line is added stress that wouldn't be there if they backed up a little and didn't know they only had to defend the next 10 yrds. Add a speedy reciever or 2 on the outside and safeties now have to play over the top instead of trusting 1 on 1 coverage. If we show the ability/willingness to attack the 2nd/3rd level in the middle as well then you back off the LBs too, opening up the running game. Again.... this is just a possible opinion.

Bad idea IMO. Off season delusion, media puff pieces, and annual downright homerism already has this team to 8-4. By late July we be pressing 10-2 w a possible playoff birth.

Seeing the closest thing to what we really have has the potential to destroy another great start to an off-season. So, no.

I agree to some degree. That is why my binge watching this week was all of the 98 games that I could find!

Back in the 80's I remember watching the 85 Sugar Bowl and the butt whipping of Miami about 7 times on my old VHS recorder. LOL
As I've gotten olderI don't watch as much football. Don't seem to have the patience for it anymore. Guess I've seen too many frustrating seasons and I'm just old and tired.

My copy of the close Virginia win broke before the VCR did. I’ve got sooo much VHS of the Vols but nothing watch it on. I lost my Dad’s copy of 2nd tape of “100 years of Volunteers!”, it gave me the excuse to go buy me a copy.....

I’ve really tried to understand how a person with natural athletic ability at a high level just squanders it away. How does one lose interest after getting to that level? I’ve known a couple of kids that had athletic talent that was at least double the skill level of their piers. One flunked out the summer before senior year and I’ve lost contact with the other. Maybe he made it.

Now with DVR, I’ve all of last season. I can’t say that I watched much of 2017 after the fact, but I still enjoy watching football. especially the Vols.

I really don't understand why anyone would want to watch any games from last season

My best answer:

1) It’s football.
2) It’s Vol football.
3) Many of the players from last year’s team will be major contributors to this year’s team.
4) For me it’s a type compulsive behavior. I’m drawn to Vol football, due to all the fond memories I’ve gotten from the time spent with those I watched the games with. I’m looking forward to many more. They may come in bits and pieces, but they will come.

A few years ago I converted my VHS tapes to DVDs myself. I had already thrown away my football recordings but I was able to convert several gigs of kids sports, graduations, school plays and dance recitals to DVDs. I used a program named Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 and my Sharp VHS VCR neither of which I need anymore. If you are interested I will be glad to sell them to you at a big orange discount. I would imagine the shipping would be the biggest cost.

I get that it's the VOLS and all of that but for the most part we are getting our ass kicked. If you enjoy that go ahead.

There are no fond memories of the Vols getting their ass kicked. If I enjoy that? The losses are more painful than they should be, but I do need some balance in my life.

I got the hankering to see an old fashion OL performance so I went back and watched the 94 TN/GA game. It should be mandatory
for all incoming OLinmen to watch this game. Tn. ran the ball 70 times for around 400 yds.

Don’t forget our backs missed some blocks as well. I agree that when you are 119th in points per game and 121st in yards per game that isn’t attributable to any one player or position group. Everyone sucked together.
