Up to now, Lane Kiffin has been an energizing (more aptly put, polarizing some would say) force for Volunteer faithful.

Kiffin promised a staff to be reckoned with, and delivered.

Promised some recruiting surprises, and delivered.

Promised to raise the bar for his players, and thus far has delivered.

He's thrown some wild pitches early, to be sure. Though I'll have to admit it makes me smile to see a national championship coach bristle so at that upstart in orange...

So far so good right?... Fuh get about it... Now, well tomorrow, the rubber meets the road.

The 'to do' list is daunting.

Make clear what new expectations are, and define accountability.

Install new offense and defense and evaluate existing talent all at the same time.

Find a QB from now just 2 guys who have played at all.

Fill O and D line gaps.

Two deep the LB corps.

And these are just thumbnails... The coaches would go much much farther. I hope they do. We need it all, every detail, no stone unturned.

But the thing we need the most is for this team to quickly grasp the new material. The elements... quality staff and an SEC worthy roster, are in place. Success, even moderate success, can only come from good teaching and incredibly good listening over these next four weeks.

So little time, so much to do. A daunting task that begins in earnest tuesday.

We fans will be blessed with an opportunity to do something we've not been able to do for a long time... read about what actually happens from beat writers who will finally get to watch. Truth from spring practice will be refreshing.

I'm rambling a bit I know, but I'm truthfully really excited to see this new day dawn at last.

Go Vols!!!

Great post OWH. You always do a great job summarizing these points.

Am looking forward to reading about practices. Anyone from VN plan on attending? And if you are, are you going to wear a shirt?

By far the most interesting part of all of this! I was so sick and tired of prior springs having sunshine and smoke blown up our arsses then to see stats from scrimmiges that didn't seem to make that connection. The writers will truely get to see which players are making an impact and how the beginning and ending product looks.

Very exciting to me!:clapping::good!:

So little time, so much to do.

This doesn't worry me nearly as much as it would have in early December. These guys don't seem to let time frames hamper them much, they just crank it up a notch and speed things along.

Getting a review of spring practice that isn't filtered through the smokescreen of the coaching staff will be great. I can't wait to see the reports.

First 2 days are no pads, correct?

If you can draw a conclusion from the conditioning article in KNS, it is a perception of a new challenge for the team, and a new energy among the players. The focus on details seems very important to me as it should serve to erase the half-ass attitude among those players that are on the borderline of being a contributor or being a nobody.

I love watching all of this unfold. **grabs a Tostito and dips another bite out of the nanosmidgen bowl of hope**

Plano, where exactly are you on your hope scale? I've seen it steadily rise the past couple months. :dance2:

Good post OWH. I am also excited that the entire practices is going to be open to the media. I heard John Brice from Volquest on the sports monster last week and he was looking forward to being able to do this. He said it was going to be different being able to cover an entire practice versus being very limited and picking up things when you can.

on a scale of a hundred, I am about at a positive .5.

I've really fallen victim to all the sunshine and smoke blown our way over the past several years so I will remain skeptical for awhile.

But you are right, the trend has been steadily upward in nature and I like what I hear. So far so good.

I think I'll be at 100 when we slap bama silly,

Quick Question:

With all the secondary players that we have it seems we have some great Depth in that position. Does anyone think that we might actually see Eric Berry on Offense a little this year since we have some folks who can sub in for him on some defensive plays.

Great post, I think the most important part was that so far what he has promised he's done the best he can and delivered. So far that's all we have to go on but at least so far so good. Pretty good reason to be optimistic at this point.

as far as i can remember, he has only promised that the team will be "physical," which i think will happen.

I don't really like the idea of EB having to play offense. Kif got players like Nuke and Oku so we could finally score on offense. JMO
