Notre Dame WR coach talks Chip Lindsey and Tennessee

Sigh. I don’t want to have to involuntarily settle and justify afterwards. I want Freeze. Don’t you?

No settling.

In fact 2 points make him the better overall hire:

1) better fit. He agrees with Pruitt's idea of being "multiple". He has proven to be a flexible playcaller. Freeze has run a butch offense wherever hes gone. Thats what we have been recruiting away from the past year.

2) likely to stick around for longer. Not sure if he has HC aspirations, may be a Chaney, Shoop, Venables type happy to be a technician and not ceo.

Freeze likely has us looking over our shoulder every single offseason and having to sweat 5 different hc seaches. If Sexton is his agent, then we are probably getting blackmailed every season too.

I think Freeze is the best playcaller available, but as a HC cjp has to look big picture and which is the best fit.

Does everyone think Lindsey will be announced today? If it is him will everyone be excited about the decision.

Mistake if it is. His total offense ranked 95th this year, next...

All I know is that Auburn's offense was shut down, at home, by Tennessee's very pedestrian defense. That is not a very good sign.

Rumors out of Auburn is that Gus stepped all over his offense this year. Chip called the plays last year, but Gus couldn't stay away this year. Of course, this is all coming from disgruntled fans. So take it with a grain of salt.

I hope Pruitt thinks hard about this decision it could come back to haunt him.

I have no inside information!
My gut tells me Freeze was offered but if not announced today, then he is looking at other options. I just hope Pruitt gets one of his top 2 or 3 choices. (I will be a little concerned if that choice is an internal hire.)

You are aware people have a bad year. Heck UT defense was ranked like 81 under Bob Shoops and Shoop got Miss State with one of the top Defenses in the SEC. I'm not saying that Chip Linsey will have a similar impact but a change in environment and management maybe what he need. Don' expect a big name to come here unless he's currently on the market. Coordinators don't usually make lateral moves unless they have been fired or came from a lower tier program.

If this coach already knows what offense Chip would run. Isn't that a negative?

450 yards
450 yards
450 yards

Stop that myth. Stidham's bum arse stopped them with 3 stupid TOs. They moved the ball QUITE WELL (450 yards I believe it was).

Now there's some truth nuggets. Gus said he would "intercept calls" and "adjust them"...a year after Chip saved his butt by taking the reigns and getting them to the seccg.

Yup, and 28.3 ppg would be grrreat for us right now. Heck, we scored 19 last year and 22 this year! Even his low end is nearly a 1 td upgrade!

What. If he is hired, it is because Pruitt know what offense he runs and thinks it will be the best for us. An OC is hired because of his scheme.

I'm ok with Lindsey. I see his bio and there is a lot of high school coaching experience in AL and GA before making the jump to NCAA. That has to mean something for recruiting. I know Freeze had some great top 5 classes but we also know they came at a price.

Alexander talks philosophies and what he would bring to Tennessee.

Chip Lindsey 'has an idea of what he wants to do' offensively

So he can be a running back for us too!?! 🤣🤣🤣

“Lindsey will utilize tight ends,” he said. “He is capable of playing with open sets, RPOs, or jumping in and being physical and running the ball in the SEC.”

Kind of a redundant and self conflicting article. He has an offense he wants to run but he can adapt to what they are trying to do? What we need is a guy whose offense he wants to run is the offense we want to run. He needs to sell his offense to our coach and our coach needs to make a decision and stick with it the entire season. It all needs to be clearly laid out. I am all about paying a high salary for a short term for a coach to prove he can do it and giving him 100% support. If he can’t do it his way, don’t hire him and find the guy who can or call the plays yourself and live or die by that decision. Ask the right questions up front. This micromanaging, force fitting approach we have had from the days Butch lost Debord doesn’t work clearly. That said, what I do like is that the guy has a flexible approach that utilizes different strengths. Let’s hope he has a lot of them.

Yep agree

So you are thinking that the OC for a team our defense shutdown this year is a good hire?
