Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli

Greg is getting as bad as Cowherd with some of his takes. I think Angeli is probably the best QB pick in the portal right now but the 2nd coming of Burrows is a real reach.

I get the feeling we're not looking for a starter but a 3rd QB who can compete and has some experience, this guy fits the bill.
I like how all you gurus know more about QBs than a very solid FORMER SEC QB! The guy has completed almost 73% of his passes with 10 TDs and 1 pick! His one bowl game start he threw 3 TDs and no picks vs the number 47 D in the country! None of you know what Angeli could do when being behind center for a full year. The dude is VERY SMART! He graduated from ND in only 3 years! If he can read a D as good as he did all the books he read to graduate from one of the most prestigious schools in the country and I was Heupel, I would take him in a heartbeat! If nothing else, I believe he could be a much better version than Gaston Moore, provide leadership, and help the two freshmen learn the offense and game management better! Dude is smart, plays within himself, appears to read Ds very well, and doesn't throw picks. That is exactly what TN needs as a QB starter or a veteran QB to groom Mac and Merk!!!

Peanut Butter Angeli time is what we call him. He's a good QB. Does everything pretty well. He is the perfect guy if you have talent around him. He won't beat the other team with amazing arm talent but he will get the ball to the guy in each play who will.

Watch the Sun Bowl from the year before last. He cut Oregon State to pieces. Just kept pumping the ball to the right read over and over again. If he has a fault, other than not being elite at anything, it's that he can hang on to the ball a bit and take a sack. He has a nice sturdy frame and isn't afraid to take a hit or lower his head to get a few yards. Decent mobility. Not a runner but not a statue.

About a third of Irish fans wanted him to start going forward. Then the spring game happened and Carr looked great. Like, wow, great. Everybody is pretty much on board with going with redshirt freshman ringer CJ Carr now. A few like me are fine with sophomore Kenny Minchey as well.

The Irish staff feel that 2026 is the next year we make a serious run like last year. So now is the time to go with the kid.

Hope that helps some.

Well, Nico claimed UT had no talent around him. I say Nico and his dad were full of **** and excuse makers, period! We shall see! If Angeli can read the Ds as good or better than Hooker and isn't a liability running from time to time, he MAY be the guy. I think UT could do a lot worse. He probably isn't the next Burrows. But, all the guys on here making fun of McElroy for saying it is possible are morons in my opinion. He COULD be. I don't think anyone knows what he can do until the guy gets a year in an offense which hasn't happened yet. In my opinion, he could definitely throw MORE THAN 2 TDs TOTAL vs Ark, Bama, UF, UGA, and OU. That is all the ALL MIGHTY NICO (ACCORDING TO HIMSELF AND BIG NIC) did! I would rather have Angeli than Nico to see Angeli prove some guys wrong on this board!!!

Well he is a starter. This guy is a back up
You guys understand that getting a starting quarterback to enter the transfer portal and commit to us is incredibly difficult to do when the NCAA is looking to make an example out of somebody for tampering and while we're under probation for recruiting violations.... let it play out. Heupel has proven he can turn any QB into a serviceable starter. Hell, Hooker was the backup at V. Tech. Just let it play out.

An apt description of what we need. I am not afraid of our RF quarterback starting. He was recruited for that purpose, and he should be near to ready for it. Our true freshman QB has skills, but he needs to build his body before taking on SEC defenses. That true freshman is now on deck. If Merklinger gets banged up, the true freshman will go into the game. Do I think Angeli plays well enough to win games at Tennessee? Yes.

Ran into a guy today who was a ND alum. Spoke highly of this kid. Said they hated to lose him, but ND kept bringing in better guys. Said he'd be a solid choice to hold things down until younger guys were ready. Said he needs a really solid OL tho. Called him a "statue in the pocket". Very high character kid. Said we'd really like him.

He was behind Riley Leonard, a better QB than Nico at the time. ND made the playoffs last year with a better record than UT. They beat UGA and eventually lost to tOSU by a more respectable margin than UT did. They're a Blue Chip program; they don't recruit chumps, especially at QB. A 6'3" backup QB at Notre Dame will be a starter at most D1 programs. Could he be as good as Nico? It's a definite possibility. He's definitely better than any of the 3-stars in the portal currently, and most likely better at this point than the two we have left.
He finished 3rd in their QB battle this spring, he’s not a slam dunk option either

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. He is just the oldest guy in the room heading into his last season. I don’t think anyone thought Minchey was ahead of him in the qb battle.

Hey guys! I'm an Irish fan but I also root for UT. My son was born here in Tennessee and he absolutely bleeds orange. So our whole family has become fans as well.

I just wanted to introduce myself and I saw the Steve Angeli thread. Go Vols!
Was so happy to see y’all beat Penn State

Freeman said they he wanted to narrow the QB battle to two as they enter summer. Minchey and Carr are still there. You can make of that what you will

ALL SEC QB's are always 100 percent right. Got it.

Sounds like a very solid QB! And I'm guessing he's entering the portal with a goal of coming to Tennessee. He checks all the boxes! Two years of eligibility left.

Why would we want him, he could not make the starting qb role there. We already have two qb here more talented or ranked higher in recruiting sites than him. Start whichever of the two we currently have who earns the position in practice.

We're not going to get a starting QB. A QB who is starting for his team knows that team's system and is comfortable with it because he has been working with it for a long time. He knows his coaches, teammates, fans, facilities and culture well. Why leave all that behind? Money? Maybe. To play for a fantastic program like the Vols? Unlikely. We're looking for a one-year guy. That means it's going to be a graduating senior or a junior with NFL aspirations. Those guys need a strong showing in that last year. They know that will not be likely when there are just a few months before a crippled Tennessee program starts a grueling schedule in the SEC. They won't have the time to prepare and perform well in a new system. They know they'd be better off staying at a more stable program in a less intimidating conference. That's probably why the TCU QB turned us down despite a million dollar offer. It would be nice to get a 4- or 5-star from the portal, but it's not looking realistic at this point. What we need is a bit more depth and someone who might push our two inexperienced 4-stars to raise their game. Someone with some size, athleticism, skill and maybe a bit of experience. It's not ideal, but it's more realistic than poaching a starter from another team.

I think all we need is another back up

Don't know what our two QBs are receiving, but I would recruit Angeli and give all three equal pay. He is the right guy for the job, so he is the one I would get.
